First off I was trying to find a decent 3D RPG Maker, which seems there is really none for the PC. So I was trying to look up some books on how to program RPGs and I was unsure if they were efficient due to the customer reviews.

I was thinking on taking some programming courses at some point during my long college cycle, and I was wondering if I can use some advice on resources on how to program a decent 3D RPG...along the lines of Final Fantasy X/XII.

I recommend starting much smaller. I wanted to start with an RPG (2D even; not 3D, which is harder), but I soon realized how large a task that it is. There's the 3D engine, 2D engine for GUI, full stat system and battle system, item system, scripting system, etc. It's a lot of work, and requires full-scale professional project organization (even if working alone). It's definitely a lot of work. But, if you're prepared to do it, college courses (either Computer Science or Software Engineering) are the best way to go.
