/i was just wondering if you guys agree. I think art plays a huge role in Game Dev, whether its 3d art, concept, cover, ect.... i think art is a big part of the industry. And i was thinking maybe like alot of you that we need a Concept art board like the Music board that was added, i think it would be a great addition. So we could show off our concept art as well as maybe post some tutorials. It would really be a nice new feature. Because i noticed that there are photoshop tutorials scattered all over the forums and other threads trying to show off there work, and alot of logo request threads. TGC could easily make a new board where we can-
Show are stuff
Post Tutts
Ask questions
Offer Logo design and such.

I was wondering if anyone thought the same. Would any of you like to see this new board be added? I know i sure do!

ThankX

I agree. Promoting proper prior planning by the use of concept art would be wise on these forums, or anywhere.

In fact, my animation class was just discussing tonight the importance of drawing out concepts and storyboards before going into any sort of development process.

Sure you could merge this into game design or even 2D art, but I think a whole board dedicated to it would be helpful. Conceptart.org has an entire forum to just that one topic, concept.

For anyone aspiring to go into the industry this would be a practical addition and show that TGC is willing to promote good form in the design/development process.

Maybe to make it broader it could just be the 'concept' board, not specifically concept art. It would be the place where concepts are born and judged to live or die.

Because the 2D forum get's so much traffic?

2D is the section for this sort of thing, people should start using that before we'd consider a section for concept art.

(sprites, pixelling, platformers, etc)

That doesn't really fit into the category we are describing. The 2D board is dedicated for the pixel artists, which, are far and few between anyway. At least the good ones.

So why don't people post concept art there then?

Neither the 2D section or the Game Design section get a lot of traffic, even the 3D section is sorta quiet these days, there is absolutely no need for a concept art section.
There's a million sites out there for looking at badly drawn anime! - j/k of course .

Lol about the anime.

...because it's not a place for drawings. I suppose the 'other than art' concepts could go to game design theory', but the 2D section is designed for concept IMO.

Anyway, Punk13, I'm not debating this for you. Your idea. Any board that TGC would make on concept art would still pale in contrast to the actual conceptart.org's forum. I'd probably go there anyway. This site is made up of pipedreamers and programmers, not really artists.

I have an art section on my forums if anyone is interested.
You can post your stuff there if you want. Yes, you will have to sign up for an account, but I don't think thats too big a deal. I also do hosting for portfolios on my site. you can submit content and I'll post it on the main site if it conforms to the ToU.

I think concept art falls into the 2D section, as Van B already said.

The 2D Forum is so quiet, it would be nice if it got some more attention.
I fear if its left too long, it might crumble like a wall of Jacob's Crackers.

Yeah, pretty much. BUT at least its relevant to this discussion. Can you really blame me for trying?

I disagree. Sorry, just my opinion.

I won't be posting any concepts in 2D. So I guess I'll just go to conceptart.org.

Concept art is 2d. So whats the big problem posting in 2d?
