Hey guys,

I recently bought a new computer and installed a copy of Vista Home that I got from someone that ended up not using their copy. But they lost their registration code, so I only have Vista for 14 more days unless I purchase a copy. So yesterday I borrowed a copy of Business from my school, as my school has some close affiliations with Microsoft. The problem is that the DVD I borrowed has Upgrade disabled, so if I want to install Vista, it needs to be a clean install.

So how can I make a clean install but save all my important data? All my files I could back up, but what about my 100+ program count, that can't just be copied over...

If anyone has any ideas, they would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks,
-Sunflash

You installed 100+ programs in 16 days?

You'll probably have to install the programs again. It would probably not be worth the effort to find the registry entries and other things that you would need to copy for each program.

Just a note that you still need the reg code for the business CD so after 30 days of using that you need a code, anyways you can always try and contact Microsoft for the code if the computer was from dell they should be able to get your code.

Yeah, I have a legal Business (student version) product key. It's really more of a question how do I get it installed and save my crap

Anyways, I may have found a possible round-a-bout torrentable solution... we'll see. The main thing is that I have a valid and legal product key, so if worst comes to worst I can probably just purchase some discounted version of the OS from Microsoft.

Yes well, I have mastered a collection of some amazing games/freeware/apps that I just can't live without! Needless to say though, my HDD is already 50% full (250Gb) and I'm *trying* to defrag, but it's taken about a day now. But I guess I haven't been to kind to my HDD anyways... That and the Vista defragger is crazy slow (search google about it!) because it's meant more to be a scheduled task that runs in the background.
