Hey, this forum seems kind of like an appropriate one to ask this question...wonder how I came to that conclusion?

I bought a Dell about a year and a half ago. When it came, I was more of a software guy than hardware (so I thought it was great cuz it had a CD burner, lol *turns away in shame*), so obviously it wasn't as great as I thought it was.

Since then, I've upgraded from:
- ATI Rage to GeForce4 MX 440 64 Meg PCI (i barely consider that an upgrade)
- 128 Megs SDRAM to 640 Megs SDRAM
- No speakers to Altec/Lansing satellite speakers w/ sub
- crappy generic dell mouse to a Microsoft Optical...

Here's the problem. The ONLY reason I got a PCI graphix card instead of an AGP was because my case was WAY too freaking small...

here's a look-see of my case:

it looks like that except it's black not silver. ANYWAY I want to get a new case soon, so does anyone have any suggestions? I've been told to get an ATX case but they are pretty freaking huge, so I'm not so sure. I also wanna upgrade my motherboard - anyone have any suggestions on that?

Thanks a bunch.

Yeah, I know, I only have one game. Yeah, I know it sucks. But I made it! Me!

well most cases are atx and if you wanna decent pc you really need one unless you get low profile components but i reccomend going for an atx case and an nforce 2 based motherboard

Depends on where you can put the case. If you can hide it out the way just get any cheap standard case and hide it. They come it a lot of different sizes and you might be able to find one not much bigger that the dell.

I forgot to mention that I actually want a BIGGER case, i just think ATX cases are well...too big? lol...then again it gives me plenty of room to upgrade. keep the suggestions coming.

hey icfc, what are the advantages of nforce2 vs. asus?

Shuttle (http://www.shuttle.com) do some nice small cases - newer ones now have space for a decent AGP card.

well if your gonna get a motherboard the main chipsets are the KT400, nforce 2, and the intel 875 you can go for a cheaper one but i reccomend if your in game development and wanna play games go for one of theese, for example the gigabyte 7vax is a good board it has the KT400 chipset and 8x agp, but it really depends if you want intel or amd?

Ok well i have a question...

i'm still a bit hardware illiterate, so I already have an intel p4, if I get a new motherboard does that mean I have to get a new processor too??

not if you get a board that supports p4 chips like an intel one.
