ive recently just completed a ping pong game with sprites and stuff and i was wondering what would be the next step to help me improve my programming.
what im asking is what games or other little programs did some of the more experienced programmers make when they started out?
im not looking for code, just a few suggestions

Seems that a popular way to raise your skills is to write a simple pacman clone. It has simple AI the level design an everything is allready there for you. I started with something similar for my first project an look at me now

Don't even get me started on my Irish, I barely know what it says up there

To gain experience you could join up to a small-scale project, and work your way through that. You will gain more experience through that, and get to understand the programming concepts a lot better, thus paving the way for bigger projects.
