Hi

I recently decided that I was going to give Ubuntu a go and made myself a live CD.I had to install the dual boot screen so that I could run Ubuntu from the CD.
Now that I have fully installed Ubuntu I am presented with the GRUB loader and the secondary boot loader that I originally installed to try the OS out. I now want to get rid of the secondary boot loader because I have no need for it and its annoying that it comes up every time i choose to load vista. Is there anyway of getting rid of it?

If you dont understand what I am talking about please feel free to ask because im fairly tired and I may not have explained properly

Cheers

I suggest using ubuntu forum really dude Its much better for these questions. I dont know about that menu (is it the esc menu? at startup)

If it is that you could try to edit the grub.lst file i think it was on /etc/boot/ not sure.

Hmm, the second bootloader's going to be really tough to get rid of. So it goes from grub to third party to vista boot loader? Ick! Good luck!

I'd give suggestions, but I suspect anythign I recommend will leave you without the ability to boot up

What is the secondary boot loader? I assume you mean something along the lines of Easy BCD (?). If so, don't get rid of it. You need to make sure that Vista has dominance during boot-up, not Linux. Trust me on that.

Depends on which one you use more. For a while I was using Ubuntu exclusively. Then I started getting into more game playing, and have been having windows boot up. Anyway, the linux boot list, I believe you could just rearrange things there instead of using a different boot loader entirely

basically when you install ubuntu you can run it from CD. In order to do that I told it to install a temporary boot loader on my system so that I can choose whether to run Ubuntu from the CD or start up vista. When you run vista from CD you can then install it to your system, this in turn installs the GRUB boot loader.

I have to go through both loaders to get into vista :S

If you've fixed the problem it's always handy to let people know what you did to solve it, just in case anybody with a similar problem in the future finds this thread through a forum search and wants to know what you did to fix it. Cheers.

actually, no you don't. You edit the bios and set the boot order to have the CD Rom drive before the HDD. (Generally it should be that way anyway.) That way when your computer is booting it'll check the CDRom drive and see if it's bootable, if it is, it'll boot from that or say "hit a key to boot from cd..." otherwise it'll go to your HDD.

I didnt realise at the time and ubuntu give you the option to install a boot loader.

There is a file on ubuntus system folder that i discovered is the boot loader which when deleted removes the loader.
