ok, i was wondering which file type (of .dds) is able to have tranparency. for like a partially transparent texture?

I think you can just use black for a transparent texture.

well what i was wanting to do is make part of my scope semi-transparent, so you could kinda see through it.

Use DXT 5 compression, for good alpha and smaller file size. The downside is, you get pretty bad artifacts. So I opt for compromise, namely 5,6,5 mode. A 1024x1024 file with mip-maps becomes 4 megabytes, which is fine for weapons, compared with about 1.2mb for DXT 5.
