Apologies for the cheesy James Bond joke in the subject.

Yes, I'm developing my own OS in linux now, and if I succeed in my task I'll refine my linux-made-OS and make it public.

Then, I'll go on to developing another linux-made-OS for the 'game console' project I've been working on. The thread for it is somewhere in geek culture, I'm sure you all remember.

I'm using the LFS book for this. It was suggested to me by many people to be the best way for a newcomer to go about doing it, seems to be working just fine.

Also, I've partitioned Ubuntu on my external hard drive and installed it as a program on windows, so whenever I start up I can just turn on my external hard drive and choose Ubuntu from the OS boot up menu

If you guys have any tips or anything, feel free to share.

I'll be posting progress sooner or later.

Peace,
Xeno

I'm not jealous.

For a more serious answer, it will be interesting to see what you come up with. I think I remember you mentioning your game console project before, correct me if I'm wrong though. Also I don't have much, or I have no, knowledge of OS programming, what language is used primarily? You should call it Balls OS, an OS for people with Balls.

Thanks for the replies, and the luck wishingness.

Python is the language of choice for this task, as it's really well structured and supposedly the best for the job. If I hit problems, I might switch. I might not.

I heard Python is slow, is this true or just a myth?

I'll have to find out and see.

In the mean time, you may safely rely on your best friend Google for the answer to your question.

VMware Workstation + LFS + Python = supposedly Linux OS.

I've learned this from beings who contain knowledge beyond human comprehension.

(Correct me if I'm wrong)

wait, what exactly are you doing? Python is a scripting language. It's a pretty dang good one . . . but for developing your own distro of Linux? So again, what are you doing? I'm curious.

Pfft, now I have competition with a friend - never good. :/ Course my OS is being written from scratch so you've got a bit of an advantage to using the Linux kernel.

Cheers,

Don't be silly Aaron, nothing I ever create will even amount to .01% of how incredible your stuff is!

Really, I'm no competition at all. Your OS is gonna pwn

Thank you Mr Z and Alucard, I will keep you posted.

Roxas, well I installed Ubuntu because you said it was awesome but I'm developing linux so I can understand how it works

I hear from many that python is not very hard to learn if you are already an experienced programmer. It should be easy to get used to.

Peace,
Xeno
