Game Title: Sylerean Online
House Name: SushiBox Productions
Genre: 2D Side Scroller MMORPG
Website (English Community): http://SylereanOnline.com

About: Sylerean Online is a 2D Side Scroller MMORPG WIP being developed in DarkGDK and RakNet. SushiBox Productions has released a Private Server coded fully in C++ and a peer to peer FPS in OpenGL. We have decided to take on the MMORPG scene with a nice little 2D client we have been developing for some time. We have collision, basic movement, menus and etc finished in the client and we are working hard to finish the login portion of the game server.

Team:
Me - Client Programming
Lazlo - Client Programming / Web Design
Nathan - Server Programming
Jack - Part Time Server Programming
Tayoko - Pixel Artist
Sam - Pixel Artist
Tristan - Voice Over Artist
Daniel - Background Musician / SFX Artist
Daniel Kwan - Resource Management (legal expertise)
Nick - Groupie #1 / Advertisement
Billy - Groupie #2 / Advertisement

Images: I do not want to release any direct images of the client as the content is all going to be changed and would be a false representation.

Yeah the same guy, he is not working on this, as I said above, he just helps me with things from time to time. I am going to ask him to join up full time later on.

He worked on a few projects with me.

Flash is professional? I thought it was just shiny is all.

Everything I needed to know about trigonometry, I learned by becoming a game programmer.

Flash has nothing to do with how the site is represented. But a way to showcase news and etc seems a bit more professional than phpbb3 sitting on the home page. Just my opinion.

Side note, thanks even more guys, went from 23 members to 27 in a few minutes haha!

I honestly don't know how a 2d SIDE scroller can be made into a MMO. I mean too many people on at once wouldn't it be really cluttered and messy?

I think that at this very moment, the engine design is slightly more important and intruiging then a story behind it... Considering the fact not many are dedicated enough to try this, nor have a team like this together.

Anyhow, it looks nice so far, but what exactly have you done so far? Does the movement and such work with multiple players yet? A little more info on the current progress would be nice, The images look fancy and all, but a login screen and some tiles aren't exactly explaining everything yet.

Update: added some more team members! Server programmer, another web developer, also by request we are opening up a Japanese community, we have a whole bunch of people waiting for that.

@ Silvester, we have more done, and more updated from what I have shown here. Although, the content changes so quickly and dramatically, it would litterally take time from my day to constantly update this thread. Although I am EXTREMELY pleased with all the awesome comments, all I can say is, if you join the forum, updates will be posted there first, then here.

Thanks guys for all your awesome comments and ill make sure to get some more images within the next few days. The project is growing out of control haha.

Added a new image and updated the team list. We are starting to churn out updates on a daily basis. We hit a slow point but now things are back to full speed.

I will be sure to post a more in depth update later today as we are unveiling the our beta map editor.

Game Maniac, thanks for the comment. To answer your questions, Sylerean Online is a 2D Side Scroller MMORPG where you can meet with friends, battle monsters or etc. The story is developed but is meant to be revealed as you play.

I am the lead head developer of the project, I coded the client and server currently. We are using RakNet (a WinSock 2.0 based networking library) for the server.

Agent Dink, thanks for the comment! We are release new content daily. Come check out the progress on our forum at www.SylereanOnline.com

Thanks for all the feedback,
Dylan Marsh (Head Developer)

Sylerean Online is no longer created in DarkGDK. We have moved on to use ClanLib, which is more powerful than DarkGDK and a lot more flexible.

I would continue to use DarkGDK if the license wasn't so restricting. I don't see why TGC charges $500 for commercial license when the engine has a long way to go.

If anyone cares anymore ill post progress here as it is going much quicker in a better direction. Not sure if I'm allowed too tho.

The language was becoming very restricting to create a MMORPG in. My forum is still up for anyone that wants to see further updates. At least it started in DarkGDK, and our map editor still uses it.

I believe this will be my last update here due to DarkGDK's threshold on our budget.

We have an in game editor based on our new engine. Its really user friendly, I made this scene in about 15 minutes. If ANYONE is interested in developing for Sylerean Online, we would LOVE to hear from you. We got a big team but we are always looking. Preferably anyone with networking knowledge (RakNet or just plain WinSock).

The new engine has cross platform support for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Thanks for all of your interest, remember to check out the site if you wanna follow the progress. www.SylereanOnline.com
