I have a hard time believing that. Halo has sold millions of copies worldwide, and the driving program wouldn't even be relevant in North America. Are those just UK stats?

Odd, i always found torque rather easy in comparison with ogre3d. Mainly because ogre3d is just a rendering engine. Torque is a whole game engine.

OK, I was making a quick quote without drilling down into all of the details. My point is, DBP is professional enough to sell thousands of copies of a product. I very much doubt Frankie Pawnage and Co are in a position to pour scorn over a product when they have nothing to show. I invited him to show us where his work has been let down by the product. As is usual in these threads, nothing was forthcoming.

I don't have the figures for the month it was the top-selling title, but here's a similar one

So your saying your 2 artists looking for a coder, then one of you is coming to a dev forum and slagging off the language of choice.

Take this however way you like, but any coder would be crazy to get involved with you two. You'll probably engine hop for another 12 months then move on to something else. I mean your saying C++ is not a problem as if it's easy to learn, your dismissing the fastest prototyping language there is, and the whole thing reeks of pie-in-sky and fall-on-face.

I think for the type of people you are, the Leadwerks engine makes sense. You can get stuck in making levels and media, learn the script language, then if you find some lonely coder out there, they can use C++ with it to expand even more. The next gen graphics in Leadwerks would certainly give you two something to get your teeth into.

I wouldn't bother, I believe that the LWe script is going to be absolete pretty soon, I remember reading somewhere that Josh is going to drop it.

This is what you have to do with any game dev SDK/language! I am a little unsure about what you are getting at here Van, firstly you call them nothing short of wasters, then you say the LWE is perfectly suited to them? There is a common misconception that the LWE does everything for you and all you have to do is plugin the media, which couldn't be further from the truth.

I don't think Van ever said that LWE does everything for you. He simply stated that it's something they could start with, and if down the road they get a coder, that person could expand upon it.

As far as wasters, I think Van is just calling it like he sees it based on the facts that were given (not that he ever said "wasters"). None the less, he still tried to steer them in a good direction that will give them a better chance of reaching success. What's wrong with that?

I think more people including Mods should be as open as Van was, and I applaud him for that. So what if he didn't coat it all in sugar.
====

As of right now I too think they are biting off more than they can chew. It doesn't mean that they won't prove me wrong. Nor does it mean I can't help recommend a course of action that may offer them the best chances at success, without emptying their bank accounts.

As you can clearly see I never said that this is what Van said! I was pointing out that this seems to be a common misconception.

Please read.

You need a coder before you can start down that road in the first place. LWE is not like FPSC where you can just create a load of media and drop it into the engine and you will have something to play, you need to code from the outset.

Hehe, sry General. And it was in response to my post that you got slapped this time.

@monotonic,

Sorry if I read your post wrong. Perhaps I should wait till I get my second cup of coffee down before reading/posting here.
