I got an iPod Touch the other day, I really like it. Except I have one problem with it, and I wanted to see if anyone here had a solution.
The iPod can't see my school's wireless network. I've even talked to one of the IT guys, but he didn't know why. So I kinda just assume it's unsupported with the iPod.

So here's what I'm trying to find out. I have a laptop with me that's connected to the school's network. So is there anything that I can do to have my iPod connect to my laptop and mooch it's internet? Whether it's via USB or WIFI. I don't care.

I don't have access to an ethernet jack, and I don't have a second wireless card I can use with my laptop.

Any solutions? Thanks.

If you could set up an ad-hoc network on your laptop whilst maintaining a connection to the school, you could do it. But don't schools/colleges use VPNs to block anything that doesn't belong to said school/college?

I know, I tried.

I got AirPort on the iMac to ad-hoc to the Eee and the Eee could see everything on the network through the iMac's VPN, with unrestricted access. I reported it and they can't fix it.

The school's network is just a... WPA Enterprise or something weird like that. Requires a user name and password is all.

No no wait wait! You need the appstore app "WiFinder" and use that to find networks. For me it finds all networks, even hidden ones! I own an iPod touch too . Good choice

EDIT: Oh I just read that it used a password. In that case, ad-hoc is a great idea. I've done that with my brother: He was on the internet using his mobile phone connected to his laptop, I was connected through ad-hoc to his laptop. Easy peasy .

Well ya, the Eee would have all the privs your imac would have.

It had MORE privileges! Probably more than the admins! I even tested it and could edit files on others' users! (With permission of course!)

All depends upon how good your WiFi card and software/drivers are. Most won't but some will.
