It's been a very long time since I last perused these forums, but I've been aching to do a bit of 3D modelling for a while now, and the creation of The Game Creators Shop has given me a great opportunity.

All of the models showcased in this thread will be available in the FPSC shop
(providing Rich gives me a seller account for TGC Shop)

Many of you know that for a year, I modelled and textured a WWII weapons pack. Unfortunately, the pack was never completed and the models and textures where lost when I switched to my latest computers. Because I feel so bad about not finishing the pack, I'm starting the thread with a more managable project; an LCVP.

For those of you how don't know, a Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel or "Higgins Boat" was a landing craft used in WWII. You'll recognise it from any games, film or book on D-Day. I modelled something like this for my old Normandy map years ago, however, I wanted to make a more truthful, cleaner model so I started from scratch.

The modelling is pretty much complete, so here are some pics of the Work In Progess:

Here's a view of the front. Keeping the poly-count down was hard, especially because of the 'ribs' inside the boat. Every non-visible face has been deleted to help.

And here's the back. Incase you're wondering, the LCVP is armed with two VERY low poly 30 cal machine guns. The texturing will hopefully make up for the lack of detail.

Hopefully this will be the first of many models I post in this thread. So, what do you think so far?

AE

This is awsome! The only thing that I see wrong is there dosen't seem to be a steering wheel. Will it be animated?

nice models AE, but don't the rules of the boards say that there has to be an in-game screeny?

in the name of epic video games, I post this

Dawm. I've made the classic mistake of not reading the stickies. I guess this'll get moved now

@ ZackS28:
Thanks. The steering wheel is that circle just above the barrel over the nearest 30 cal machine gun in picture number 2. At the moment, it is a cylinder, but it is a placeholder for a proper steering wheel that I will model tomorrow.

Well, thanks

I'm not sure yet. I might start from scratch but each weapon was such a lot of work, I'd struggle to fit it around my college work and filmmaking.

@ Alucard94
Thanks! It's good to be back!

@ Coffeegrunt
Well, you're name sounds familiar, but I can't remember any of your work. Looking at your screenies for 'Izolis' though, I think you're producing great stuff!

Thanks for your comments guys, I'd forgotten how fast things move on this forum, I almost expected no replies....

Thanks again,
AE

Likewise! Were I making a D-Day game, these would be essential!

Hey AE! Good work on those models! I remember you, I think you'll probably remember me, as I think I posted a couple of times on one of your threads. Anyways welcome back, and don't be as harsh on models, as its "Not Welcome" anymore.

Are these models textured? Because from what I understand, the TGC store only takes FPSC ready textured models

EDIT: Sorry, didnt read first post

So how many polygons is that model right now? And could I see a wireframe?

Thanks for all your comments guys!

UPDATE:
Ok, so texturing that beast of a Landing Boat proved long and arduous. However, I had a day off college today so I was able to knuckle down and finish it.

Without further ado, here's a few pics of the finished model with just the _D2 texture:

Complete with rust!

The steering wheel and 30 cal barrel will have transparent bits in FPSC.

The ramp/door will be animated next. Note the detail on the 30 cals

But it's not just _D2 textures I've been working. I was also able to make normal and specular maps too. So, here's a picture of the model with diffuse, normal and spec maps applied:

Keep your C&C coming!

More updates (and more models) to follow shortly,

AE

P.S. And incase you were wondering, all of the texture are 2048x2048

Great work A,E , The model and texture are good, but for some reason, the texture looks low res.

If he is rendering it it could be because of that. You know the Anti-analising, that blurs the render. Take that off and it'll show how it'll looks like in realtime.

Is that in a good way or a bad way?

UPDATE:
I took a break from working on the LCVP last week to make a 'Dragon Tooth' tank barrier. Today, I got it (sort of) working in FPSC. So, to keep this open, I'm posting a screenshot:

This model will be available in The Game Creators Store soon (as with all the models I post here).

Apparently, specular maps don't work in FPSC...so I've made one texture too many. Still, if there's a mod for FPSC that can/will be able to handle spec maps, it'll look nice. At the moment, I'm having trouble with FPSCs shaders (they don't like my normal maps )

He meant it as in "I left because you left" kind of way. I'm pretty sure Drapes was waiting for your ww2 pack but when you left, he did.

UPDATE:
This weekend, I modelled a low wall. The texturing took quite a while (cutting around every single stone takes time!) but the results are good. I just wish FPSCs shaders were a little more realistic...

To be released soon!
