Hi I was wondering how you guys control the version of your projects? I just tend to start at 0.1 for un-released stuff and then once its released to all, hit 1.0, then increment by 0.1 each time I change something significant.

Just wondering if there's a better way to do this. I have tried a forum search and a Google one. Interested in what everyone else does. Thanks

Well, I start at v1.00 (the first version released), and go upwards to 1.01, 1.02 etc...

But I have no idea how you really do it... This is just my opinion.

@TheComet

Your way is a good way as it opens up many more "in-between" versions, maybe for fixes or different exe builds?

Also, didn't Irojo say you got banned? Or was that some mix-up?

Heh heh
It was a fairly short stay...

Waterdrop got banned after claiming that others were stealing Waterdrop's own work.

TheComet seems to have had the same IP Address (You probably don't know him, good programmer) and he got banned a bit after Waterdrop.

So theirs really nobody to welcome on this thread anymore."

@Everyone
Just looking at Firefox about box and the version number I have there is 3.0.4 - Which I guess means Version 3 (but with some fixes added).

Does anyone here, version like that?
Just trying to get some ideas on how people keep track of various versions of their stuff. Because like TheComet I don't know if there is a correct way, or whether its just personal style.

Thanks

I was banned for a month, and that timed out. Now I am starting off clean again.

@steve paul thomas

I usually version like v.fx where v is an actual version and will increase if new functionality is added and fx represents bug fixes or small changes to existing functionality. For example 0.01 can mean it's the first version without any fixes or changes (the .01 in this case means it's starting out). While 3.23 means this is the 4th version and new functionality or drastic changes have been incorporated 3 times and there are currently 23 minor fixes or changes within this version.

Enjoy your day.

@Latch

That's a cool way to do versioning You can immediately see if the new version has got more features, or just fixes problems. Nice!
