So, I am trying to teach myself modeling. And I am trying to work through a tutorial I found on the internet at blender3d.org. It's the vase tutorial. I start working on it, but it gets to the part (not very far in) about selecting subsurf. I cannot seem to find this button. I've followed the steps, but cannot find it. So I have 2 questions:

1. Am I doing something wrong in the tutorial? I have the latest version of blender, and python.

2. Are there any tutorials out there for blender that aren't on the blender site? I did a google search, but everything comes up "404: Site not found".

BlenderArtist.org has quiet a few tutorials.

The subsurf isn't a button, it's a modifier. In object mode, click on the edit button (the one that's a square with vertices highlighted. There is a tab there called modifiers (I think.) Click Add Modifier, it'll bring up a dropdown menu with a ton of modifiers, they are in alphabetical order, subsurf is one of them.

Nothing is impossible

Thanks for the link. I looked at this, and I'm gonna go through this step by step. This will take some time, and will push TOEE back (game in development), but it will be worth it.

Yeah, I found this out by skimming through the wiki-book a little bit. It's odd that this isn't mentioned in the tutorial for the vase on blender's website. Makes that tutorial very hard to do.

Subsurf just smoothes out the edges, you should be able to make a descent vase without it.

Here's what the difference will look like:

They are the same vase, but the left one has the subsurf modifier.

Just FYI, subsurfs are great for rendering cutscene animations, but you won't be able to use them in FPSC, they create way too many polygons.

Nothing is impossible
