Ok, everybody else has done it, so what the hell.

This is my attempt at creating the Stargate SG-1 to be used for something I've got on the backburner in DB. I need to reduce the polycount further to improve display speed but hell, do what you will peeps.

EDIT: Ok, link to the site, their on the main page.

Very good. The models need to be metallic gray though and your chevron locks need to be a dull red. (These are just suggestions though).

Excellent, thanks for the suggestions guys. Yeah, the chevrons do need to be red but I thought that when the model is animated properly within a game, the chevrons light up on after another light they do in the series. Good idea though .

Raven, it was my first attempt at something as complex as the stargate but I'll definately learn from the other models I've seen so far. Cheers

It isn't the most efficient model, 1982 individual faces. Most of them make up the curvature, each chevron face actually forms the shape closely to the real one on the gate rather than just being a flat surface with the texture on it.

[EDIT] I really need to work on the chevrons, they just don't look right when close up. Plus I thought about doing the suggestion of adding a redish glow, although I would like to do this as an animated model so that the inner track rotates and the chevrons lock onto symbols like the real gate.

Ditto, thats where I found them, it took me a while, plus I had to modify each of them to match the appearance I wanted.

Energizer,

It's supprising how hard it is to get ahold of those symbols that can be modified for gate texturing. I found a load of sites that had them but they looked ... well... pretty shite! I found a site that had the symbols drawn in a pretty baddly scanned colour picture so I converted it to B/W and then tidied it up using PSP.

Coloured them in each using PSP again and then just imported them into my model editor.

I was supprised at the reponse I got since posting the model pictures since I expected alot of critisizm when reading other forum entries that other fellow modellers had posted.

Thanks for the URL link to the gate symbols you posted, they looked pretty smart.... Separate them out and put them on the gate would probably look more authentic
