I've checked Sensei and I can't find Empty's source update, and I don't like the idea of having to control your allies(sorry Gamer X), so are there any inteligent allied scripts out there that work?

If A=B and B=C, are people still stupid?

All in all there is not a great deal you can do I dont think about gettting a decent ally system going until, if and when Lee does something to change the current situation and either fixes the current AI drain and perhaps adds a level of further support for allies in an update. Two slightly differing influences which each in their own way for various reasons, one or the other is a prerequisite for decent AI in my humble opinion.

There are a number of users that have worked on a producing a level of AI and or allies though I have not checked them out myself.

The little work I did on creating allies remains on the shelf with FPSC awaiting some future update which would make picking it up again and possibly developing further worthwhile.

Currently I am not sure when that might be if ever as the schedule for any such update is as far as I am aware now in something of a state of uncertainty.

A long wait is a certain it seems. Personally I see no point in my own continuing with any AI/ally work as FPSC is unusable for me in its current condition.

There have been a lot of posts about allies and AI - scattered about now I guess - so no idea how helpful a search would be.

I dont like control of Allies or other Characters either in game but would prefer a level of self thinking as it were in intelligent behaviours. That however is difficult to achieve in FPSC and not worth the massive amount of effort for me currently. Not sure if it ever will be worth the effort but I would look at it again some time perhaps if an update allows.

There have been mentions of integration of some features perhaps to provide for Better AI and perhaps allies but until it happens its not a reality so you cant bank on that either.

I am sure that if it does not happen officially there will always be some users who will continue their work or attempt to achieve these things again in the future and hopefully will be well successful.

Lets hope so.

I've noticed something, which conerns this topic.

The massive drop in FPS doesn't seem to be due to scripts at all... in fact, the drop ONLY occurs when you use CHARACTER type entities. It may be some character handling inside the engine that causes the slowdown.

Plystire,

Yes you are correct.

Unless things have changed in the recent update developments, as far as I know its Characters AI routines and some other reasons, some which were and perhaps are still unknown which are not user controllable as being in built into the engine which affect fps by a massive order of magnitude over and above any other influences.

The history of the issue is complicated and not worth debating as its just that - History. Certainly the reasons are perhaps numerous and very complicated.

One can understand that tinkering with the current AI inside the engine may be the least best option for Lee while there is a promise of something better somewhere down the line.

Hopefully the future will improve the situation as at least suggested by Lee might be the case if in fact he does eventually introduce an improved and somewhat New AI system.

That is at least the suggestion that it will bring some level of improvement.

Until the AI drain issue is stabalised one cannot access how much improvement that might make to FPSC as a gamemaking tool and how it might improve the quality of the games made with it nor the quality of resulting gameplay.

If achieved it should have a major impact on the quality of games made with the product.

Yes, I agree that FPSC will become a much better engine with the reduction of FPS drain from characters.

I can debate, though, that the drain doesn't seem to be from their AI. I recall placing enemies WITHOUT scripts into the level and the fps would still run into problems.
