I was looking through the available products, and I came across a grass segment by AeroFiles under Platforms/Floor.

The grass texture used is almost exactly the same as the grass texture that tshawrz used in his free landscape pack. I doubt AeroFiles is tshawrz, because terry has no reason to sell it if he is giving the entire pack away for free.

See the comparison below. The similiraties are to close for comfort, you can even make out the same grass patterns. Having photoshop myself, I know how easy it is to make a texture look different (I have have written AeroFiles over the texture to 'protect' it):

Tshawrz:

AeroFiles:

Looks like he just pushed the saturation up, and blurred it slightly. What do you guys think?

P.S I want my 20 store points back that I used to buy this with

Good spot, they are similar, but more likely tshawrz took it off the GCS.

I believe his landscape pack has been around a lot longer than the GCS, unless of course both him and Aero got the texture off an external website.

You could be correct. I think TGC should look into this.

Maybe I just have issues against people whose names I find difficult to pronounce.

TGC can't just check everything , there a lot of people that trying to make money on easy way.
And I hope who does that will be punished .

Btw the container is probably just a same texture but a different model , the texture probably came from http://www.cgtextures.com/

Best

Somebody please give me a job...

That is what I want to think; that they both got it from the same free resource.

you can not just go to a free resource and grab whatever texture you want, they have to be " free copyright free " or " free royalty free " for you to use them in your commercial projects, otherwise you are still breaking copyrights on them. Most of the free stuff around is free, but you can not sell it in any way unless is stated in the website or in the actual download. If it says free you can use for your freeware games and you can not sell it in any way. If it says royalty free, you can use it in your commercial games for texturing your models, but most of the time you can not sell it individually or in a pack.

cgtextures license is not restricted to royalty free:
"Conditions of Use

Use of the Textures is only allowed under one or more of the following conditions:
- Private or commercial use
- Use in 2D or 3D computer graphics, movies and printed media
- Incorporation in computer games, 3D models
- Selling 3D models bundled with modified versions of the textures, when the texture is customized for the 3D model"

So imho you can use them in a model and sell the model.

I am Jacks complete lack of surprise.

@X games and daarboven

It also declares:

It is NOT permitted to:
- Sell or distribute any of these textures in an unmodified form, or where the derived product you are selling or distributing is a Texture or a collection of Textures. In other words: Do not sell or distribute any of these textures (modified or not) by itself or in a texture pack!

Basically, if you havn't modified it, you can't sell it. If you modify it, you can sell it as long as it's not just the texture that you are selling.

People are buying the texture, not the segment itself.

If anything else, it's a lack of morals and it's tricking the buyer into paying for something he doesn't need to.

There needs to be much stricter moderating of the store uploads. Not only are some of the models and textures from third parties (I thought the contract for the store made you declare that ALL the work was yours?), but there's a heck of a lot of badly made media which in my opinion brings the store down.

It should be a place where you know you are buying quality, legit media.

@Conjured

So according to you, I can go and download all their thousands of textures and sell them on the TGC store? That's a good way to make a quick bit of money.

Quote: "Wait a minute, so it's not a segment?
Are the files packaged together, or are they a separate download?
"

People aren't paying for the segment, they're paying for the texture. That's like me stealing a Chuppa Chup lollipop, and replacing the stick with my own and selling it.

And I'm pretty sure it's against the store license anyway

If you were to put them on segments, you are exactly right.

Though you wouldn't get any sales because it's just as easy to get a free texture and apply it to a floor thing in Firma.

Q. Can I upload other people's models?
A. You can only upload models that you own 100%. The 3D model, textures, scripts and all other files for the model must be your own work

Even if he doesn't infringe CG Textures license, he's infringing the TGC store license.

Guys, we're going off track here. We're just under the assumption that the texture is from CG Textures, when it may not be.

simple fix to this , don't buy texture from cgtextures, problem solved. unless you are using it as wallpaper the texture is useless.

I would have to agree with heltor, in some way. I personally think that just making textures yourself is a much better way to go. You get a greater sense of achievement that way.

I can't find this texture on CGtextures, so i don't think it came from there. Where ever this came from, i think aerofiles should post in here with an explination. It could be that he has a lisence for it. Obviously if aerofiles is not a frequent forum user then this might be difficult, however there must be someway of TGC contacting him.

Well... Me and inspire both made crate textures once and it ended up that they were almost exactly the same. We used the same base image, the same type of crate, there were only a few small differences, so it can happen.

WHOA, WHOA, WHOa, WHoa, Whoa, whoa, this just..wow I really surprised a mod has not locked this people, I do think that it is all right to download it for free the crates and stuff, but it does seem to attack against the TGC stores rules:

Q. Can I upload other people's models?
A. You can only upload models that you own 100%. The 3D model, textures, scripts and all other files for the model must be your own work

Chances are that this thread will be locked, but I don't like to be negative. Lets try and not get so angry jeez, calm down people.

Don't worry we all have off days, but we should really contact this guy, although he seems familiar...

edit: duhh..he made signs which well what happened to it I was talking to him a while ago about Signs 3D and he disappered shame though, people are becoming corrupt here. If I could bring users back I would bring UberDroid (MagicFPS creator) and Butterfingers they really paused the limits and helped people do what was possible with FPS Creator on there own and not stealing things.

To clarify my last post, I meant physically taking a picture of the same bit of grass, not both using the same reference picture.
