As many of you will know, FPSC allows you to create online games.
Annoyingly, you have to know the host's I.P address, annoying if you want to release your game to the general public.
Would it be possible to implement a server list? Im thinking the add on could work like so.

Player Computer >>>Connects To>>> Game Developers Computer/Server, which hosts a list of other players that are currenley hosting games.

I think if this could be acomplished, FPSC would become even more popular because it would allow people to create online shooters cheaply and easily.

Anyway, i await the response of the many scripting Gurius around here!

Thanks,
Ryan

You may want to get into contact with Urlforce (who has, once again, fallen off the face of the TGC boards and possibly the planet) who developed Lemur V4 which supposedly had the capability of provided such a server list and even a lobby system for multiplayer.

Well, one alternative would be to get your hands on DBP, sownload the last source code that was released for FPSC and Mod the engine to provide a server list. That may be a little difficult if you're new to programming, so it's really up to you.

not exactly he said that lemur v4 is no longer in production and then he left and hasn't been back science. And he said he moved on to a different engine.

Aha. So thats why I can't see any games appearing when I try and play going postal. THEY DONT. LOL

Yeah this a must soperryan. Not being able to locate other people hosting FPSC multiplayer games means you've got to constantly try and organise 1 off games with forum members or friends.

I doubt TGC have the resources available to host dedicated servers for us to use for free and I'm not technical enough to know how to get an FPSC executable to search for other IP addresses unfortunately.

Annoying that UrlForce isn't going to release Lemur v4 as the lobby system was pretty much essential.

Why not make a starter app for your game that automatically adds the user's ip to a list on a web server(ask the user first).

Then you can show the user this list in the app and show it in the app so the user can choose a game to play and get the IP.

If anyone wants this I can make it for them.

@Knxrb Yes please! If you want any help etc like a webmaster i can do that. would you allow me to use it in a commercial game possibly?

Regards,
Ryan

@Nomad Soul, Yes but if they released free software for a person to host their own server that would work.
Anyway Knxrb has come to the recue!

@Knxrb

Yes please. Its no secret that multiplayer is the weakest part of FPSC and anything to improve it is a really big help.

@soperryan

True.

Hope to see some progress with this soon.

Ok, seems more people want it than I thought!
I'll do 2 versions, one for people with their own web servers and one for people without a web server.

Which programming language are you using for the application?

Could I possibly get a look at the source?

I suggest getting the community guide or some other script tutorials and looking through those, and my app will probably help you as well: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=142689&b=23

1. Lobby System With Chat.
2. Multiple Levels (Host chooses level)
3. Friends Lists
4. Avatars
5. Something else that you think would be a good to add.

@soperryan: No problem, make a sample still and I'll take a look

Yes! i would like the lobby system and multiple levels thing definitly! the others if they are too hard don't worry but they will make a great addition! The friends list sounds interesting.

Ha ha!

I'm adding in the lobby and chat system now, then when that's done I'll move onto multiple levels

Also if it was too hard for me to do I wouldn't have put it in the list.

you should add a stats system, but more important, an ingame updater if possible. for instance Jimmy killed Bobby and so on.

That's great.
I have a Linux server at the moment but was thinking of adding a Windblows server for extra compatibility.

Quote: "It's fully customizable, you can change the screen size, background image, buttons etc.. and there are no pop-ups or logos so you can use it commercially "

That is just great.
Many thanks.

That is great, cause I have the Net Studio.
So, in short...

Yay, yaay, that's grrrrreeeeaat!

WOW

One of the most important FPSC applications ever.

Please implement a lobby and chat system then we will have a COD quality multiplayer interface.

Thanks for this
