Sorry but this is, strictly speaking, not a DB problem but I hope that you can help.

I want to create a web page which will contain a few DB programs which will take up about 3.7MB(zipped) and some stuff in C, about 500KB (zipped).

As a refugee from Macintosh I had to move from Compuserve and am, at present, using the free month from AOL. After a couple of days AOL looks good but it seems to only allow me to create 2MB websites. Does anyone know if this is true and, if so does anybody have any suggestions as to where I should try to have my web site hosted?

I decided to ask at DarkBASIC since I thought that you might have run into size problems before. DB seems to produce very big programs compared to other languages such as C or Pascal. Howver that is my only real criticism. If I rewrote my DB programs in C then I would still be writing next year (or maybe the next again).

Thanks in advance for any help or opinions.

http://www.freewebs.com has great free website hosting, though I'm not sure about the webspace, you'll have to check.

http://www.utopiahosting.com is probably the perfect host for you, if you'll take a gander at the prices.

my current host is http://www.anhosting.com and they host my website http://www.delvarworld.com, and I'm very happy with their service.

if your looking for a paid host, take a look at http://www.biggerbyte.com and click "Hosting". There's a $1.75/month plan that may suit you.

And free hosts are a bit dodgy nowa days, they tend to dissapear with a click of the fingers, apart from the "big boys" (i.e. those powered by successful websites, i.e. Yahoo! Geoctities). Bu the best free webhost in my opinion would be http://www.tripod.lycos.co.uk/. They give you 50mb space

Nothing wrong with 1 &1 either - 2 years domain is £3.98 (excluding VAT), and 500Mb server is £60 (excluding VAT).

If you like, I can stick your stuff onto mine - Doing that for DrakeX at the moment anyway...

Thanks for all the advice. I had started to use geocities from my Mac at the school where I work but I was having trouble uploading large files, well 2 or 3 MB. However I am able to upload them from my PC at home this weekend. On reflection I think that the school's firewall has been stopping the uploads, but, now that I am online at home, I seem to be ok.

I'll keep a note of all your suggestions though and will make use of them in the future as my need for space grows.

Thanks again,

Rob
