I got one little question here(since i don't even own X10): Just how good is the Ally AI? Yeah, it's DARK AI and all, but that only goes so far. So is it awesome? Does it need a little work? Or does it need a LOT of work?

Needs a little work. Allies tend to follow you and unless you're in a huge open space, its easier to kill enemies for yourself.

OK. What about interactions with enemies? Do they shoot at them on their own, or only when the player shoots?

Awesome. How many can you have following you at once?

As many as you want, there are downers obviously though, as in, they cannot go down stairs, or swim or duck and go in vents. So I tend not to use Allies unless you are making a 'war' scene where you are all on the same layer, attacking over people at the same layer.

They can go up/down stairs actually. And will walk in water, but don't float or drown.

To make them go up/down stairs, simply place a waypoint at the bottom of the stairs and a second at the top (make sure they are connected).

The faults in the AI system are not DarkAI's, but rather the implementation of DarkAI in FPSC.

I find it better if an ally AI is used as a plot device, for example, having a cutscene play then characters from the cutscene that are still in that area, will be stood there once the game starts. Then maybe have an ally 'escort' you , or you 'escort' this ally to a shortish distance away, before you part ways.
Like in half-life having scientists open doors for you.
Not sure if ally AI in x10 is capable of opening doors for you tho, but ey, its a start
