With the popularity of the recent releases of fantasy and medieval themed packs, I have decided to bring out a castle skybox pack.
The pack will contain 8 castle themed FPSC ready skyboxes, and be priced at 4.99 British pounds. Stay tuned for links to the web site for details and purchasing.

Ill post the screenshots of the skyboxes as I do them.
Here is the first one of the pack called, Jareths Keep, Ill post the layouts later, stay tuned to this thread as I add more images of whats in the pack.

Store is now open with the Castle skybox set
Go here to buy.

http://www.avantivitastudios.com/store.html
Price is GBP 4.99.

I have also opened OOTB skybox set 1 and 2, we also have some deals on the prices, and discounts if you buy more than one pack.

Skybox Pack 1 - GBP 8.99
Skybox Pack 2 - GBP 8.99
Skybox Pack 3 (the Castle Pack, ie the one on this page) - GBP 4.99
Skybox Pack 1+2 - GBP 15.99
Skybox Pack 1+2+3 - GBP 19.99

Prices are in British Pounds due to the exchange rate altering constantly due to the globally 'planned' e-con-o-me down turn. So you will have to use an online currency converter to see what the days rates are. Here is one http://www.xe.com/ucc/. Please give me time to fulfill the order, I do them by hand, so they are not instant, I have to check my mail, I may be on a different time zone than you, then send the order out, so bear that in mind. If you wait more than 2 days, then mail me straight away, as I normally processes within that time frame, so use the online contact form.

Buy The Castle pack or win it for free right now in our contest below

FPSC users like to use free or low cost tools to make their FPSC creations, one free tool is the Blender 3d modelling program, to win the OOTB 3 Castle skybox pack, just answer the following question.

What is the meaning of the Blender Logo below?

Official Logo

The winning answer will be the the contest holders interpretation or understanding of the logo.
First correct answer will win the pack for free.
The contest will stay open for one month or until the first correct answer.

Castle Screenshot Contest

All those that buy the skybox pack are eligible to enter the Castle Screenshot Contest.

To enter the contest is easy, simply take an in game screenshot showing an OOTB castle skybox being used, screenshots must be pasted into the this thread, sized at 640x480 in size, and must be seen actually in the thread, so noi uploading to game creators and having the people coming to the thread have to click on the view button to see the image, if you don't have web space to upload the image, use one of the many image hosting services, for example Image shack ( http://imageshack.us/ ) though there are many others you can use. I repeat, the image must be posted into the page thread, and be 640x480 in size, so not a thumb nail. The image you post will be 640x480, and be seen on the page as 640x480.

Every entrant to the contest will get this skybox. Please email me your paypal email as proof of purchase and details of your your poster name here and on what page the image is on this thread, once I have those details you will be receive the skybox in your email.

You must put the answer in the thread, not a link to a page.
Also the name Blender coming from a song is incorrect, I also know the true meaning of the name as well, perhaps thats one for another contest, the true answer to the name is quite funny as well, they love to mock the profane, Ill take some joy in giving the answer to that one.

Isn't it something to do with showing hand-eye coordination around a tool?

Submitted answers are incorrect so far.

Ahh, lightwave logo, I wondered why this logo was different, right the lightwave logo is exactly the same meaning as the Blender one, so thats a clue, though that will get you more confused, so Ill replace it and get the normal Blender Logo without the lightwave logo in the centre, it will make it easier and you can then say what you see.

hand and eye, tribe & community

also meaning a bond between two essential functions,
blender derived from traces on an amiga,
blender formerly played a big role back when neogeo was arround
and and had the biggest selling cdi game,
blender made games under the name Engi.
and yes the song yellow played a big role in the futre of blender,
with a showreel called blender,
some people look at the logo in a diferent light and see it as a
insult if you like, to a previouse delveloper or partner,
sort of a rude awaking to others,
WITHOT BEING TO CRUDE STUDY THE LOGO AGAIN,

Added Crusaders Outpost to the first post.

Pack will be available in the next few days, I have to upload the images that we see here, I have two more to add, then I need to create two more sky box sets as the pack will contain 8 skyboxes.

Also still no correct answers on the contest yet.

Before Blender Ton created a raytracer. The logo for that was the sign for the camera in traces. From what I understand the current logo represents or is based on an "eye". The "Tracer" program contained a sign for the camera. It was a semi-circle at the bottom and a large dot above that. I assume he wanted something that represented the "eye" and keep the large dot that was in his "Tracer" logo.

I found out that Blender was named after a song by that name recorded by a band called Yello.

Although there are many different logos floating around, the official logo is shown by clicking on the view button. The white surrounding the image and Blender name is actually considered a part of the logo.

BTW, here is a quote by one of the designers:

Quote: "Key words for the design were: Community, Web, Hand-Eye.
After several explorations in several directions (chain, webnode) the eye direction was chosen. After the logo style sheet was done Ton added some more dynamics to the logo, giving it more character"

pdidy might have gotten some of the same info where I had gotten mine.

So, if the "eye" isn't it, then you must be very close to Ton to know what his logo really means.

BTW, I have your other skyboxes (both sets), I bought them before you took them down from your website. I really like them and I believe I will really like these as well. Looking forward to purchasing them.

No correct entries to the contest yet, Ill give you some clues, you will not find the real meaning to the logo in any official write ups, they are just spin, you will only get the right answer if you say what you see. Its hidden in plain sight, as most things are.

Added Dragonna Lair skybox to the first post in the thread. I think its my favorite one so far as I love the colours and it has a nice high fantasy swash buckling cartoony type feel to it. Can you guess the influence for this one?

Looks like a crop circle to me. But what do I know I'm just a yellow egghead with a smiley face painted on the front with glasses.

Maybe a Cockatoo head with a big eye? Or, a sun with rays. The center looks like "Southwestern" art.

Try this one then:

Quote: "What does it mean? The pancultural Eye-in-Hand icon manifests the integral and interactive bond between two essential human functions: sensing/observation (the Eye) and doing/acting (the Hand). Together these two abilities represent the most effective symbolic condensation of the ideals of human existence - omniscience (all-knowing) and omnipotence (all-powerful) - in a very simple two-part icon: the Eye in the Hand."

Ill start to give some clues on the contest, The logo is nothing to do with hands or fingers. I think if I give clues some of you will get it with some coaxing.

The name Blender is not named after a song, Ill go into that one in the future.

Dont know Ton, but there are not many logos I dont know the meaning off, they all follow pretty simular themes.

No the skyboxes are not rendered in Blender but in Bryce.

I have added to the first post in the thread the skybox called Strong Hold, so go check the new addition out. Ive also rendered out the 7th skybox, Ill get that up next, then only one more to go after that one is up.

Ton is the initial author of Blender. Those who are in the know and it is also stated in Wikipedia -- although one has to be careful of what information it provides -- that Blender was named after the song I mentioned. I will now bow out of this thread and wait for the skypack. I don't really want to get into a debate over something trivial.

Addendum:

Quote from Wikipedia:

Quote: "Blender was developed as an in-house application by the Dutch animation studio NeoGeo and Not a Number Technologies (NaN). It was primarily authored by Ton Roosendaal, who had previously written a ray tracer called Traces for Amiga in 1989. The name "Blender" was inspired by a song by Yello, from the album Baby."

Yello as a word is interesting, its important to look at words as they sound not as they spell.

Yello backwards is olley
or
Olé, a Spanish word used to express approval and agreement
Ole, a Nigerian word from the Yoruba language meaning thief.

So as it is written backwards the meaning would be, none approval, not in agreement, and to give freely.

This isnt the answer, Im just replying to the yello thing that was brought up, the contest is for the logo, not the name blender, look at the logo, not the name, forget the name, its the logo, Ill give more clues later because I want one of you to win it.

Ive also got some other chances to win stuff, so stay tuned for that, I have a few bonuses and extra prizes to give out. Ill anounce then once I get the rest of the skyboxs put up.

It is blending the skyboxes into 3 different parts. (It took a fe3w minutes for me too think about this) And in the middle, there is an eye.

Nickydude, I've never seen this talked about in connection with Blender or the logo. Yello is a band name and they had a song called "Blender." I think it is just his observation which is interesting.

That said, I don't think he intended to imply that this is the answer as he wants us to see what he sees when he looks at the logo in the first post. At least that is what I am guessing. Again, the official explanation is the eye in hand which has already been mentioned in the thread; but, to me, I think it looks like Sonic Hedgehogs' head -- except for the eye part.

Well, I didn't read the posts on the 2nd page so didn't read the response. Anyway the thing about blending the parts of the sky sounds pretty good to me but then again who am I? Instead of the middle being an eye though it might be representative of the sky.

with the dutch sense of humor it was proberbly ment as a rude jest
at other 3d products, showing that they could do it for free
and just as good if not better, it dont take mutch imagination to see the jest in the logo, infact when this product was desigend and released, some people questiond the logo and its symbolic
resemblment to an act , or an insult to other 3d aplications,

[EDIT]
i think some clues are needed for this .
all i can think of is things like 3 into one,
or 3 tools one blend. or render,

or Open source

Pdidy that is well spotted, so good spotting ham shanker, but not the answer I'm looking for, but very good. Things often have dualistic meaning, or meanings that read the intent backwards, or segmented within, as in meanings within meanings.

As for official memos on what things are, sounds like socialist heaven, but that ain't how the real world works, big daddy isn't looking after the children so they can play.

Added another image, see the first post on the thread for it, my favorite so far, this one is absolutely perfect for horror games, its called Loch Baal Castle. - "Abandon hope all yea that enter here".

Ive only got one more to go, then that's the pack ready for release, Ill add some extra clues to the contest, plus outline some special bonus prizes I'm going to be adding for you.
