using something such as ply's mod, is it not possible to bind a body to the camera, so that it will move with the camera, but be visible if the camera looks down?
and though it might be awkward, a head could be joined to the camera, so that through a reflection one could see the entire entity.
thus the animated torso and legs follow the camera, while the weaponry still works, and the system could still function.

i was just throwing an idea out there. is it a sound one?

Yes, in fact, I've suggested this very thing before

A reflection wouldn't work as to have a true reflection you would need to manipulate camera sights and redirect them to the texture of the mirror.

...what an outstanding concept.

The idea is a very good one, Necrophear.

I'm surprised that you didn't take a stab at implementing this, Plystire.

You do realize that you'd be elevated from demi-god to full god status, in the eyes of many, if this function were made available?

Lol, I was going to but there was the small detail of needing a set of legs to go under the camera, and I'm no modeller.

If you can make the legs to be used, I'm sure I could help with the scripting.

I could probably do some simple legs if you could get these working.

Alright, well here's a script to get it rolling:

Slap that onto the legs entity and it'll force them to follow the camera around and face in the direction the camera is looking.

All that's left to do is script in animations for the legs when the player is moving around.

So the legs are simply an entity with that script attached to it?
Would the following animations work?
Idle
Walk
Sprint
Jump
Strafe left and rigth

I got some basic legs now, only needs a texture first

Here are the legs and a jeans texture.
They are not animated yet, I want to see if they are ok before I start to work more on them.

Use at your own risk

Just tried them out and they look nice and the script acts good.

What you need to work around here is the player looking down inside of their own legs. Perhaps modelling up to the upper/mid torso, and offsetting the camera upward slightly... this will make the camera hinge forward a bit when they look down, positioning the camera slightly in front of the body.

Great! The torso would be no problem.
Just a question, does the legs x and z (i think its thoose)axis assign to the camera?

Yes, but when you move around they kinda lead in front of the camera. I bet you can get around with by scripting them to have a slight delay in their movement.

I could also move the legs back a bit.

That would only help for moving forward. The legs lead in the direction the camera is moving, so if the player is strafing right, the legs will be a little to the right, if the player is moving backwards the legs will be a little behind the camera.

You can correct this by scripting them to change their offset when the player is holding down a directional key.

Would anyone want the legs in .ms3d file so you can continue by your own? (of course you will have to release them for free when you are done )
