Hell, if there's anyone who could come up with something it would be you, If you want to play around with it let me know, and I'll send you the files."
The easy way would be to have the launch sequence played out as a cutscene then
the sky's the limit, meaning real footage could possibly be used.
The rocket would be passed by the player on their way to the control room/launch tower.
However, the rocket's launch could be stricly cutscene, which could even have a nice mushroom cloud added in at the end.
That would be the easy way.
The player could also be able to see the rocket fly off in the sky if they run out of the building.
That is if you include an animated part of the model for similuated exhaust in flight.
That could be the answer to the in game launch, but there would be some crazy decal tricks going on for the smoke.
Sure, I would love to play around with it, but I think a cutscene using real footage would be best for my launch sequence.
The use of real footage shouldn't be a problem as long as the model is retextured to match the rocket in the footage.
Then I can just hide it while the cutscene is playing and change the pad to look scorched.

Hmmm
That is a hard choice... Nam or Nukes?...hmmm...I want both.
I can see both as appropriate when there are Nazi's in the WW2 media.
After all, that media is based on real life objects from real life conflict.
So, why not have more?
Diversity is a good thing, right?
