Hi Everyone,

I'm about to start learning how to create models and other stuff. After reading online here, I understand a model has the texture file seperate? So when you create a model, do you paint on it to make it look how you want? But how is the texture saved as a different file? I guess if I can just grasp the basic concept first before learning to model, I should do better from the start. The manual that came with FPSC says nothing on creating models. And everywhere I have read on the forums make it seems that its assumed everyone knows the answer to this. So sorry for asking!

Thanks for your help.

Model and texture are separated files. The model contains the geometry and the texture the painting.

Then you 'link' them toghether saying that model 'm' uses texture 't' and specifing for every part (surface) of the model a corresponding area of the painting. This process is called UV mapping.

Those concepts are general and not restricted to FPSC.
If you search the internet you will find deeper (and better)explanations

@Warren It all depends on the modeling software, all models require maps. what software are you using?

I'm still looking at the different programs people have mentioned on this forum. I understand what Veltro is saying about the models and the textures. But what I'm wondering is do you create the textures seperate? Or do you paint on the model in the modeling software and then it creates the texture file on its own? If you had to make the texture seperate, it seems it would be hard to make one for a person cause you would need to get the eyes, mouth, etc. lined up with the model itself. So this is where I am confused.

Thanks!
