My wife has a part of her game where she had a trigger zone set to spawn pillars to block a hallway. She then selected the pillars and placed them where she wanted them, set Spawn at Start to No, changed them to dynamic, and set them to Immobile. She had the trigger zone spawn the pillars when you hit it. Walk around the corner and her pillars were there blocking the hallway as she had set them. Everything worked well for her except one thing: she can walk through the pillars.

I had looked at her progress and noticed she had the pillars on a 45 degree angle. I am wondering if that is why you can walk through them? I tried using crates and notice that if I hit the trigger zone and the trigger spawns the crates, we can walk through them too. Or am I needed to create a script referring to the colon/coloff for the pillars/crates?

My suggestion would be to remove the "immobile" aspect of them to see if that'll make a difference first. I recall that I had problems with collision in the 1.1x versions of FPSC when I had the entity set to "immobile".

Remove that and see if it works.

That fixed part of the problem. It seems that maybe the pillars are also the issue. If they spawn by trigger, the base of them you can't walk through but it seems the column part of the pillar you can. My wife also made certain when she had them rotated and placed that they did not touch a wall or other object. Also made sure the immobile was set to no. If the base fell towards the doorway, then the entrance was blocked. If the base did not fall that way, then you could walk through them.

I noticed the SciFi section had a boulder so we tried that. We set the mode to dynamic and immobile to yes and the boulder did not spawn. It worked perfectly once immobile was set to no, except the boulder is a little bigger than the hallway and spins around slowly. I'll create a smaller one to fit for her.

Otherwise, thanks for that piece of info. We'll note that in our book for future reference (yes, we make notes here of all we do and what we learn).

Taking notes can be very helpful later on down the road. That's a good tactic to use when going about game creation.

Your pillar must not be shaped like a box... in FPSC the physics engine uses a box shape for most every entity. It could be that it couldn't determine the correct size to make the box for your pillar.

Why not just spawn a fake wall?? I dont think you would be able to walk through that, and if you can; it makes for a cool secret door.

Good luck

Because spawning a fake wall would defeat the illusion of a tunnel collapse?

We have a section where it spawns a fake wall. After all, it is my wife's creation and it is a temple, so you never know what "traps" will appear.

She had a spot with an invisible wall, but you can't get past it. You can see the two pillars standing at the archway. You have to find another way to enter the room and as you round a corner, she had a rumble sound and triggered the pillars to make it look like they collapsed. So it was an "illusion" yes.

The pillars are small square at the bottom base, but long and round for the columns so I see where you are going. We found another idea with the smaller boulder to work so all is good once again in the land of BlackFox and his wife

Thanks you guys.
