because as all of you know dark basic would never let me load any media but I learned some darkbasic professional (not much though) but I did create a program that loaded a bitmap and it worked( at least in the demo)

Oh...My...God...

arbiter, good luck on your endeavor.

EDIT:

You do know that DBPro is practically the same as DB, right? I'm thinking that you didn't really know what you were doing to begin with (remember your thread that asked me how to use the XRotate Object command?). Maybe that program you 'wrote' is really one of the sample programs that came in the demo?

Sorry if I'm harsh, but you really should try to find out why DarkBASIC isn't 'letting' you load media. Seriously.

Overall. kinda but if you get down to the gritty stuff dbp is more powerful.

more powerful, yes, but essentially the same, especially on a basic level.

Although it is compiled, so it runs much faster. However, that does make it take longer to compile.

Compilation time is only an issue with very large programs.

Arbiter, it sounds like the trouble you're having is artificial. Make sure you save your program before you execute it, and put the media in the same folder it's saved in.

actually i have noticed that pro is slower to compile on pretty much all programs, although the margin of difference is smaller on smaller programs, however it does generally run faster

DBC doesnt really compile it just does syntax checks, that's why its faster/slower

can't read?

DBC has always, for me at least, compiled fast but run the programs I make slowwww. I have a fairly decent machine, but sometimes it will just drop its framerate for no reason and really irk me.

DBPro worked better, without a doubt. So arbiter, I hope you are creative with DBPro and successful. Make a good game and share it with us! And then....

That's because it's only interpreted. It means that the program isn't fully compiled again again to run. That makes it slower. However, DBPro is compiled, so it's compiled again every time you hit F4 or F5. This makes it much, much faster when running.

does dbpro have a step-by-step debugging thingy? I remember delphi having that and it was very useful.

I'm not sure but if it does it might say something about inserting breaks because thats what darkedit does.

I'm pretty sure it at least compiles to bytecode.

There's possibly something for everyone in here.

Arbiter chewbacca hybrid, I'm not sure quite what your media problems were, but there's a small guide explaining how to load an object or image using relative of full paths to lead to the object. (Might be something useful for DBPro as well, you never know...)

Yodaman Jer and Quirkyjim: actually, DBPro and DBC are pretty much comparable when running on modern computers. Both languages can put a spinning cube on screen at around 500fps (the link above explains how to get that level of performance out of DBC, if you're used to it running at just 60fps with Sync Rate 0)

Caleb1994 and OBese87:
DarkEdit does insert breakpoints, but this fails if there are too many lines of code in a project (I'm not sure what it was I once compiled, but I think DBC couldn't handle all the "Break" commands). DBPro does, however, have a full-fledged debugger complete with variable watcher and Command Line Interface - quite handy actually!

Oh and apologies for sidling in like this, I'm afraid I've been out of the loop for a while - or perhaps I should say, my Gosub has found it's Return command!!

Good Luck arbiter chewbacca hybrid on DBP. I plan to get professional sometime in the near future. I've been playin' with classic since 2002. I don't like the idea of buying things over the internet.
