Hi All,
I have recently been developing a Medieval game in FPSC that i require animals for, and for the life of me i can't find any anywhere. I found Pigs and Chickens in the TGC Store but thats as far as it goes, so i have decided to go in search of custom models.

I require such things as:
Rabbits
Birds
Flys
Fish
Foxes
Badgers
Squirrels

I also require a forrest items and a few weapon mods aswel.

If anyone is interested in being a Model Designer for my upcoming game please don't hesitate to contact me.

Regards,
Quay

Best of luck in your search. In many cases, animals take longer and are more expensive to have made since the animations are not readily available. Here is a link that may help you.

@ xplosys

I've read all the stickie threads regarding this issue.
Do you know what program could be used to model these, and would Sketch-Up do the job for modeling then use an animations program to finish it off you think?

Blender is FREE, and can model, animate, uv map, etc, all in the same program. But, you have to actually know how to model first...

This fish took me about 5 minutes to model (using the image as a reference picture), and then mapping the image to the model as its texture. If this can be done in 5 minutes, imagine the quality that could come from an hour of work As mentioned before, Blender can also be used to do the animating. Best of luck to you.

I use Google Sketchup to make models. It is easy to use, and is cheap to buy. I use FragMotion to convert, UV Map and animate my models.

As long as you model TRIANGLES in sketchup, not squares and 1000 sided faces.

good luck!
thanks

I think i'll give blender a look at too, I currently use Sketch-Up to model. I modeled a mushroom last night [yeah, lol] and exported it to .x then put it into Entity Workshop provided in the model toolkit to map textures to it.

I can get the same effects as KravenWolf has in Sketch-Up and i will post a few images of my models later when i get home.

Would Character Shop be up to the job of animating my models?

Can you explain why triangles and why 1000 sided faces?

Just to let you know without meaning to plug the Pack.

There are some 'Flys' in Model Pack 26 (Graveyard Pack).
The fly model has 'Wasp, blackfly and bluebottle' texture variations.

I don't think I have seen models 'yet' of the other animals you mention with the exception of fish.

Good luck on your quest.

I've gave up my search and started modeling the animals so far i have a rabbits head in Google Sketch-Up.

And with finishing touches:

I also gave Blender a bash and couldn't get past moving a cube around [lol]. Are there any tutorials out there for blender modeling so i can see if there is still hope for it [i haven't uninstalled yet].

Fish are hard in Sketch-Up! I came up with the body and head, fins and tails are no where to be seen.

I'll be checking that pack out then. Is it also sold in parts in the TGC Store?

Thanks for all the advice so far guys.

by triangles, I mean turn squares, pentagons, etc into triangle structures. Open a 3DS model file and take a look, it is made with triangles. If you dont use triangles to model in sketchup, the collision will not work properly. I.E: Turn a square into 2 triangles. BTW, that rabbit is pretty high-poly for an FPSC character. You can lower the poly count by un-roundening it. I.E: An octogon becomes a hexagon. But so far, nice work!

PS: did you add me to msn?: quay**kid*@hotmail.com Just checking incase of spammers, this happens sometimes.

thanks

Right click on the cube to select it, and press 'G' to Grab

Blender is pretty straightforward once you learn the hotkeys. It's a lot faster too. I would give it more of a chance, it takes more than an hour to learn how to use it. Once more, instead of having to use all of these other programs to do the animating, and so on; Blender can do it all.

Think i might start him again and make him mode 'Cubey'. Hes, i think, a bit too much work for something you will just run past in the game.

$19.99 is a bit much for 3 flies. Does anyone have the Pack and does it contain such things like spooky trees or such that i could incoporate into a level to give it a spookey edge?

I'll give it another bash weekend, Exams are starting soon.

Does anyone know if AutoDesk Inventor will do the job aswel, as i have a friend who is amazing on AutoDesk and can model nearly anything but his skills are limited to that one program lol.

good luck finding a suitable program to model with. I seen blender in use, it appears to be very complicated, I seen my mate use it and it took him like 2 mins to model a wall without details and texture.

thanks

If you want some none animated fishentitys, you can use these ones:
http://rapidshare.com/files/237454551/Fishes.rar.html
I havn´t got any screenshots, but i think you´ll like them.
It´s a pack with one ordinary fish, one scruffy fish and one fish head. You can use them for comercial and nonecomercial games.
Credits would be nice.

Hope you like and need them.

Don´t be afraid about my bad spelling, I´m a sixteen-years-old orange from germany. I´m trying to learn english since I was 8, so chill out, everything is OK.

I've been using Lightwave for about 10 years. I often find it better for smaller very low polygon models if you make it vertex by vertex and manually telling
it where to put the polygons, then every single polygon counts. Less waste then. I mean I would still use extrude etc when called for of course

I gave up on Blender a while ago as it seemed a bit rubbish compared to LW. By the way in this months 3D world magazine they're giving away Real3D 5 away free
(6.1 on the Mac too).
I've had a play with it briefly and it seems ok. Also theres Truespace which is free on the net somewhere. It used to cost quite a bit, but is now owned my Microsoft
who have made it free.
That requires a fast computer to run it as it's realtime preview is very good. Its a bit fiddly to use though.

Blame the modeler not the software
