Yes, People were wondering how "Meat" had such nice lighting effects. So I tried a few different things, this was my personal favorite. I like the effect, nice and low poly too. There is also a tutorial now.

Looks pretty neat. Its a dynamic gradient non animated decal, right? Or is it attached to the model?

Looks cool none-the-less.

If someone can enlighten me on how to make these I will be very grateful. I've been pondering on this for ages....

It's a very simple effect, I will be writing a quick tutorial today and updating the first post with it. But it is in fact a very low poly model.

The tutorial is attached! I will also add it to the first post.

P.S. Can a mod put "Tutorial" to the end of the name of this thread?

EDIT: I noticed there are some spelling mistakes in the tutorial, but oh well... You get the idea.

Yeah this stuff is also very good for any kind of holes like a wall hole, also maybe instead of simple gradient you can modify the Sprite Pack lightray texture to look even better.

Couldn't you use at texture as a decal and use that to always face the player?

Yes, but that wouldnt look good if you was to walk underneath it (if the light hangs from the ceiling from high up)

Cool i use this alot of times... And you will easily get the same effect as meat gets but there is a but because meat uses a decal and a single image in the first screens, but this is also a very nice tutorial and will imprive your games

Votlight: To invert faces in max, right click on the model-convert to-editable poly, select face mode on the right, select all faces and underneath the face mode theres a Flip button.

Yes you could, but it wouldn't look as good when you are close. Also, if you use this for light rays it will look good when you are in front of it. But if you just use a decal, you will notice it is flat when looking straight at it.

Yeah I noticed Meat uses a decal, because all the lights look exactly the same, not to mention the edges aren't as sharp as this one. Do you think gaussian blurring the bottom of the texture would help?

Ah... I thought it was using decals.

Nice work, but I'd still like to know how to make light decals, A La Lyte:FX.

Thanks guys, I will consider making a pack of these, but it would be some work.

@AaronG, The texture already has a blur at the bottom, so I don't know if that would help.

Hmm,To bad I don't have a modeling program so I can't make this
If anyone would be so kind to make a downloadable version so that people that couldn't make this, would also enjoy this neat effect.

How do you invert in Blender? I've began to use that since TrueSpace stopped working on our PC . Great tutorial anyway .

Here is a small pack with 3 lights. One cone with two different textures. [so actually 2] + A box light with white gradient color.

CHECK IT OUT

You will need .7zip to unpack them.

Credits to me and DARIMC would be nice.

EDIT: When you place the entitys, click twice 2 to get them in the proper position. Then with Up-Down-Left-Right + Page Up and Page Down you can get the position to the lightsource better.

I will be making more. Requests are cool through email.

Good Luck All,

Red Eye

Use this script I made in FpiCreator and just put it under the Main tab of the entity.

A neat trick, and a cool tutorial. I may give this a try myself. I use LiteFX, but this is a great idea. Thanks!
