Well umm here i am making my first thread in the models section Anyways im beginning to get into weapon creation/animating for fpsc and was wondering what the easiest program to model guns is, and what has the best results. So i found ModTool and was wondering if any1 on these forums has used this, and from their experiences is this good?

I dont know, never heard of it.
But i would go with milkshape (a program which i dont have, i am saving up for it, and i loved the trial version.)
Also, fragmotion you can animate in.
I am using the trial verion, and i love it.
Happy weapon creating!

No i mean i could export easily, i even made a nice K1A and it was fpsc rdy and worked as well, but it wasn't too good looking, so i redo some things and export again, and it crashes while exporting. After that nothing exports to that anymore.

Try COMPLETELY deleting all milkshape files from your computer, were talking go into program files and delete EVERYTHING, and then reinstall it.
Also see if this plugin works

Is there honestly a need for a plugin? It comes with directx(tc) built in.

Thx, guess i'll try it another day than. Half-way getting modtool, might as well finish and try it out. If i dislike it i may switch back to milkshape using that plugin and will see what happens from there.

BTW: I would get the top one right.

No the one that says 'SoftImage XSI dotXSI 3.x Exporter Plug-in for Milkshape 3D'
and has that little circle-x pic by it.

{edit} just realized that aint a .x exporter.
Sorry

Yeah it is good, but not for comercial projects. at least not without promission of the company..

i would go for

Blender/3DSMax and GIMP. + Paint.net

The Best

It's basically MADE for maximum compatability with Source engine mod developers.

I really need to take a look at that program..

I suppose you could combine it with fragmotion, which can import HL2 mdl files. Then use that to export.

Regardless, fragmotion is just generally excellent for working with .x files. Its importer is near perfect.

Thx for your opinions guys...btw i tried milkshape again yet theres a HUGE problem. Whenever i export to directx (jt) Using skin and bones format, my milkshape crashes. So i cant export guns i make using milkshape. Any idea how to somehow bypass this using another program or how i can fix this problem?

I would use Blender, best free modelling tool out there. I really don't like XSI Mod tool, It's widely used for HL2, and there's some really amazing models, but I've never got into it, seemed difficult. Blender has a steep learning curve, but it's mainly for the short cuts, after those are sorted out it's great.

well, there is always this:

http://www.caligari.com/downloads.html

It's totally free, and used to be sold for about 700 dollars before MS bought the company out and decided to give it away.
