so you guys apparently only respond to unique problems.. so this is one I haven't seen addressed on here...

I know how to export, and I know how to get the model into FPSC toolbox, but here's the problem..

When I hide the biped, the model is exported without animation AND it is crumpled/distorted.. etc...

when I export it with the biped visible.. all seems to work jsut fine.. I can see it in the FPSC TOOLBOX window and it animates and everything..

I've tried resetting Xform, rigging it as an editable poly, as a mesh... I even tried exporting to an OBJ then reimporting. Been working with MAX for nearly eight years and know how to rig a character, how to model a character.. but this is killing me.

here's the model so far.. but I can't finish until i KNOW it will work.. otherwise why bother?

Below is a video i created specifically for you guys to see so you could tell me what the problem is.. hopefully... I emailed the creator of the FPSC TOOLBOX and even he doesn't know what is wrong..

Please, I don't like asking so many questions, as I know it makes you guys annoyed, but keep in mind, you were once new too, and if I could help you guys out like I help out my Zbrush subscribers I would, but I'm not there yet.. so please, PLEASE help me understand what I'm doing wrong before you say Google it.. if you like, I'll even give you links to all the dead ends google provided.

here's the video link..

It seems the video has been removed...

BTW, I saw your other thread. If you want to go really next gen, you should go with FPSC X10 since out of the box it it has a lot of features only available in X9 with mods. You get 2048x2048 texture resolution, better AI, normal specular and relief mapping, gpu instancing and lots of others. It's better suited for the things you seem to be trying to do I think

A picture says a thousand words.

Yes, I removed it when I discovered the answer.. I'm a doofus.. I was only exporting the mesh and not the biped.. I hit export selected like a moron.. instead of export.
that does sound awesome. but I don't like running vista, and I think it is only for vista isn't it?

Yes, only for Vista/DirectX 10.

I'm sure glad you got it sorted. While there are a few on this forum who could help you, I'm afraid you are beyond most of us.

Brian.

... thanks... I think..

UPDATE: Crusader2 made me see what I didn't before, and I apologize.. my cynical side thought you were calling me a lost cause. Then again, after overlooking something as simple as what I had missed.. I couldn't have blamed you if you did

You guys are awesome, and I apologize!

Yeah, you should say thanks. He's saying that you're a better modeler than most of us.

Oh! Tanks so much! I sincerely thought he was saying I was beyond help... I felt foolish enough not being able to export the models.

Xplosys, I apologize if I sounded apathetic.. I thought you were kindly telling me I was a dunce.. which i deserve at a moment like this.

Crusader2, thanks for clarifying. I wouldn't want to offend any of you guys, as you are a freaking awesome camp of people!

If any of you guys need help with modeling in exchange for the suggestions you have given me, feel free to ask, or check out my youtube page.

once I get this model finished and in game, I'm going to release him to the public. I don't need him for any specific story, I just wanted to make sure I get a workflow down so my game project will run smoothly.

again, I sincerely apologize for sounding rude! You guys are very kind and I should have known better. I'll keep the images coming!

Trust me, you're not even close to as bad as some of the people we get around here.

Oh man! I just got him into FPSC with his beta textures but no normal map.. but I baked the normal map into the texture just to see what it looks like.. and yeah.. it's going to be fine..

Now I need to know what is the best screen capturing software for in game screenshots etc..

UPDATE

well RIGHT ON! The legendary COZ and I have been working together to bring this guy to life a bit more! I'm really stoked to show you all the results! That guy is incredibly generous and talented!

Anyhow, Crusader.. if you ever need a character made.. just let me know.. if it weren't for you and COZ, I would still be scratching my head right now!

I should have said that your level of expertise and talent is beyond most of us. I really enjoyed the vids. I just wish I knew more about it. Please do keep us up to date on your work if you can. And you're dead on about COZ.

COZ is going to send me the shader he built for my models tomorrow.. but in the meantime, he taught me how to apply the .fx files that are native to the app.. I'm so grateful for you guys..

It's still a WIP and the diffuse texture is only colored that way because COZ needed a color map to work with.. it's not going to look like this in the end.

he's not done, yet, lol.

But the model has fingers sculpted. the FPSC biped has no fingers.. just one big.. bendy bone.
