Hi,

I was doing an environment that looks like our solar system and was wondering if there was a way to make the sun look more like a sun.

Right now, I'm just texturing the sphere with a sun-like texture.

Is there some way to animate it more, with flames and such?

thanks,
john...

a texture flipping 3d plain always facing the camera would work.

imagine two planes always facing the camera both just off center forwards and backwards with ghosted flipping images of fire flames at different positions, even just ghosted/faded/hidden rotated etc.. would work..

or you could create, say, 3 textures with subtle differences and just retexture the object now and again. it'll be easy to do, but might be a little on the slow side.
