hey eveyone,
if you don't mind I have a couple of questions about modelling and animating entities and characters..

-First of all, what's the best software for making simple animations to models (rotations for example), I used maya for a while would it work? if not then what would and would it have the same concept? and is there anything different to do making it FPSC ready (except applying animation frames)?

-are the character animations embedded in FPSC? I mean if I model a character with the skeleton on can I just apply FPSC default animations without having them in my model?

-another thing is how to animate characters? I guess somekind of sensor is used over each node of the skeleton otherwise it's gonna be made frame by frame, am I right or is there any other way?

-am currently learning ZBrush an amazing software for modelling 3rd generation models, would it be ok to use its models with FPSCX9 or would it be too much? if not is it ok with X10?

that would be all for now... TY

hey bibo! You can make models with zbrush for x9 if you mean exporting Normal maps and using them in x9 is possible if you get a good shader for it. I use AC3d to model and 3d canvas pro to animate, unfortunatley fpsc doesnt make bones animate in itself, it has to be pre-done as an animation in your modeling software, i think thats why lots of people use that character studio where you rig up your model to a skeleton and then uses pre-set animations, if you want to make custom animations make a skeleton and move them frame by frame, well not exactly frame by frame if you move a leg from behind the person in frame one and put it infront of the person in frame ten, then it will slowly move towards that point between the frames. Hope that helped

@Mazz426: TY

@Darkowen: well I can give Canvas Pro a try see how it goes, for the frame by frame part I wasn't refering to walking or running, I meant more complicated movements..
any idea how are they done?

@djmaster: can't wait for their release

X is not available because you have to purchase the product, at the minute you are using 3d canvas Free version, you have to buy the PRO edition to export to .X, i know there is a few versions out there but its the PRO you need.

Milkshape 3D. They have a free 30-day trial with all features enabled plus it can export to .x format. After that it costs very little to register and it is definitely worth it. It's a popular tool and perfect for the amauteur game developer or modder. You don't want to be paying for a Full commercial version of 3DS Max which is $3500. Milkshape is very easy to pick up and is a great starting point for beginners. I was using Caligari Gamespace for a few years to animate my models. I still use Gamespace to make my models because it is better (in my opinion) than Milkshape in that respect but the animation tools and export to direct X format was poor. So, last year I downloaded and registered my copy of Milkshape 3D and I have been using it a lot recently to animate weapon model. Plus, there are thousands of Milkshape users and Tutorials on the internet so if you're ever stuck then there'll always be a solution.
