For some reason, every time I go to File > Open in the DB editor (the native one), and go to my external hard drive to open a file, DB freezes up, and I must exit it through task manager. This never happened until today! DOes anybody know how to fix this?
Yes, I know that I should use DarkEDIT or similar, but it bothers me that it happens because it means something is wrong. I haven't downloaded anything, except maybe a model of a sniper rifle. I made sure that was not the problem, though.
Also, does anybody know what "NOPDB.exe" is?
it sounds like nope db...

Now is better than never.

NOPDB.exe

I think that's a norton antivrius thing. I think it's a real system hog and may be gobbling up your resources. Check your Norton Utility pack and any information you can find. DBC is notorious for running at 100% CPU and if NOPDB.exe is trying to do the same, that could be your computer freeze.

Enjoy your day.

Yeah, I searched for it and found it was "norton protect disk backup"

my computer doesn't freeze up, I can still open task manager. Also, in task manager it says NOPDB.exe uses 0% CPU. Anyway, if my computer doesn't freeze when running half-life 2 and db and google sketchup (which is what it is doing right now), then it will never stop for some Norton Thingy!!!

And, I just discovered that it only freezes in the root directory, and not in any sub-folders!

Now is better than never.

Since it just started today, have you tried rebooting?

If you want to stick with Norton, I suggest getting Symantec Corporate. Lower memory requirements and much easier on resources, works so much better in my opinion. Also, Symantec has recently released Norton Lite (i think thats the name) that takes out all the crap they added in 360.

Yes, since it first happened I have rebooted about 3 times.

I don't think it has to do with norton, and even if it did I probably would not be able to buy another version, because we just got norton a month ago, and i am out of money (I can't tell you how old I am, but think middle school.)

Now is better than never.
