Hi all,

After many tests and so concerning outdoor levels, I've decided to start a very small game with X9 and BM(I'm going to buy the 1.7 version, when It comes out).

I've decided to make a game that takes place in the middle east, while you control a Special Agent and so. Not much story development for now, just some level building.

The levels will take place on small villages, where you can see the mix between old monuments and new buildings.

Take a look, first two WIP screens.
I'll be updating this post and not the "Outdoor City Project", since It's better to update only one post than have quite a few.

EDIT:

Level 1: Small Arab Town
Level 2: Medium Bombed Town
Level 3: Savannah
Level 4: African Savannah Villa

Looks really good! What sort of performance do you get fps-wise? I'm only curious as I seemed to get a variety of results.

A steady 62 fps. With characters between 50-62. But you won't notice the fps drop in the gameplay really.

Thanks everyone!

The player will have only 2 weapons per level. A pistol and a machine gun, something in that style.

I tried making a level like this, but failed miserably.

So kudos for you for pulling it off so great.

Thanks Inspire.

Now that I'm finishing this small level, I'm starting to work on the next, which is a bombed village (modern arabic).

Stay tuned

Really nice alimpo83. I just have to say that the lighting looks off in that last shot. BTW, what happened to Sword & Axe?

Coach Shogun 20 I've stopped the development on that demo. It was for me to test some X10 limits and start testing outdoor environments (I still have a 4 level demo I think, that I never released, if you want, I can compile and release it). I now am using X9 and BM, as you can see, as I get better fps results, altough with worse shaders and effects.
The lighting on the last screen it's still a wip, because I'm trying to find(and If I don't, I'll make one), a sky that fits the scene, a bombed town. I'm inspiring the lighting on that COD 4 level, the one with the nuclear bomb.

I think there's a stock skybox that has a bombed landscape, if not, you could probably edit the existing city one...

Great work so far, I can't wait to see how this runs on my PC...

If I was ever given the opportunity to remove all the bad from the world, I wouldn't, because for there to be heroism, compassion and all that is good, there must also be all that is bad.

Another view of the bombed town plaza.

I still have to add details and such, this is another WIP.

Thanks.

Looks good. But in the last screen the blue sky with all that green and yellow light dont go together.

Keep it up.

Looks nice. Maybe it is just the skybox that makes the lighting look weird. Anyways, yeah I'd like to see what you finished in Sword & Axe please, it was really fun.

I'm going to present the intro videos and such in the form of comic strips.
I'll use actual game footage and photos to illustrate the story.

I've always loved the way the story was presented in Max Payne.
A WIP on the first two screens.

I like the idea, but I don't think muslims would have "Allah" in their name, it would be like calling yourself God...

Actually i don't really know, but I think it's possible.

The name means:
Ata' Allah = Gift of God.
Not "God" Itself.

It's an arabic name.

Thanks.

I'm creating vegetation, as I didn't buy MP29.

My Palm Tree WIPS. I've yet to UV correctly the leaves and such, but it's a start.

Thanks.

While playing Far Cry 2 I came up with this.
In order to create cool outdoor environments, I created large grass panes(on the video, only 2 grass dynamic entities on screen, so less CPU processing, I think).

Video download(2.65mb)- sorry for the qual, the fps drops are fraps fault

EDIT:

There is going to be a level that takes place on an african savannah. Screens to come soon.

This is becoming the hardest level to acomplish, because of the draw distance and the "sandbox appearance" of the level.

I'm now using the full 1.7 version of Blue Mod and decided to use Full Bloom effect too.

The result, looks great!

The first screen, a WIP of the level, the second showing far away view(in FPSC terms) and no FPS drops!!!

Great work

As you say one of the hardest things to do in FPSC outdoor environments is use the map editor grid effectively to create a feeling of space.

Be careful with the bloom its easy to over use it with outdoor environments.

What are you using for the terrain and skybox? they look very nice.

I was looking at Dark Clouds in this months newsletter and hoping we can use the animated skybox features in FPSC. That would be so cool.

Anyway great work

Thanks Nomad Soul and Red Eye.

For the skybox I'm using one of the default skybox from FPSC, as for the terrain, the texture is mine, and the meshes from FPSC Landscape Kit. The rocks are modded models I bought from the store.
