Newcomers DBPro Corner / How to make animations seperatly?

Ok, so, a few questions.

First, I want to animate my character so he can...say swing a sword, or shoot a bow, but have an leg animation aswell, such as flying a bird, or running. How could I make a m,axed and matched set of animations? (Not using enhanced animation pack...sorry.) Whats the easiest way to this?

And also, my Graphics guy has a way of "naming" animation, instead of having them as frames, is there a way is DBP to load named animations instead of framed ones?

Try using CharacterFX for rigging and modeling. It's free, and works well for what I do. I don't know about "naming" animations(I've never tried), but you could probably code some animations names into arrays:

You can use variables to store the frame numbers:




Or use constants that will never allow a number change:

Thanks, I'll look into the characterfx thing, and thanks Grog, I'll be using that, but it's not what I meant. In blender my animator says he hasn't made the anims seperatly, they are named differently, and thats the only way they could be differentiated in code, ideas?

Are they in different files like a walking file, running file, and dieing file?

No, he has a single model, single file, that has multiple anims on a single model, with sets of frames, 1-12, then 1-14 and stuff. But I've decided to just have him use a different animator, other than blender.

But how about the legs and torso thing. what would be the easiest way to that?

Just a heads up that animations do not export well from Blender to the X format.
