Hi!

I really wanted to learn how to make some own models.
So I started fooling around a bit. I tried to make a
sword, I\'ll upload a screenie, tell me what you think
about it. It still needs some textures but I\'ll
do that as soon as possible. Please don\'t flame me since
this is only my first model, no, it\'s even the first
time I\'ve used a 3d modeling program. But any hints and
tips are always welcome!

Looks good. It would look better if you made the blade longer as it looks more like a dagger at the moment.

Check out these tutorials, I'm sure they will help you out.

Good luck and all my best to you. TCP.

Excellent for a beginner. Some things you may consider...

You can cut down on the poly count by removing some stacks from the handle cylinder. In this case the poly count is not a factor as it would be on larger, more complex models. If you capped the cylinder, you could remove the caps as well.

The hand stop (what do they call that?) could be more ornate. I've never seen one that's just a block.

As Cosmic Prophet said, I would make the blade longer. That would really add some weight, so you may also want to increase the size of the globe on the end of the handle so it doesn't fly out of your hand with a good swing.

Brian.

this may sound a bit noobish but how can I count polygons?

EDIT---------

here is the sword edited, I've made the blade longer and the hilt or what ever it's called is now round. I also made the grip wider at the top. I thank you for the comments, the sword is a million times better now! Screenie attached

I'd say 10 times better, but yeah. Nice work.

GameRetardo: Go into the "Tools menu", and select "Model Information" a popup window will appear that will tell you everything you'll need to know about the current model.

It looks way better now. For a first model you should pat yourself on the back. You can now UV Map it. You can use Milkshape if you want, but I personally recommend using a progam like UVMapper, Or Lithunwrap to do your maps, as there are many more features for map creation using those programs instead.

Good Luck!

Well, it takes time to learn to make good UV maps, the general idea is easy though.
