Hi All,

I've taken advantage of the Dark Studio Bonanza sale to pick up a copy, I've been thinking about it for ages so this provided a great opportunity.

I'm much more interested in producing 2D games (but I would still like to do some 3D eventually) and have noticed that there is a 2D Plugin Kit for sale. I was wondering if anybody had this kit and what they think about it. The studio deal came with extends so I am not sure what extra the 2D Plugin Kit would give me and whether or not it is worth investing in.

Also, I saw that there is what looks like a pretty good library of examples in Dark Source. What are your thoughts on this as well?

Cheers

Hello Mark! I have developed a 2d game without this plug-in known as Blox and am working on a top down shooter, personally I prefer not spending my money on it and figuring out the basics of 2d without plug-ins, especially if you are new.

Hope I helped,
Zeus

Hi Zeus,

Thanks for the response, I understand what you mean. Writing your own functions to do the simple things is a very good way to learn the language. I think I will take your advice on that. Have you heard anything about Dark Source?

I like to try different languages and I have coded business apps in Delph, C++i and C#. For game coding, I remember the "old" days when I used STOS and AMOS (which I loved) and I am also playing around with BlitzMax. I am coding a little game at the moment in Blitz but I am really looking forward to giving Darkbasic Pro a try for my next project.

The bonanza deal represented such great value to get into the language. It would be great if they offered deal like "buy any XX add-ons for XX dollars". Here's hoping! I think if tey did that, I wouldn't be able to resist picking up the plugin kit plus a couple of others.

Thanks again for the help.

Cheers

Mark

I have the 2d plugin kit , its great for scrolling layers/sprite control and makes it much easier ,but its nothing you couldn`t figure out how to do for yourself , also i have never understood the collision the docs are a bit on the thin side , but saying that is good for begginers and getting stuff done quick so its worth it for that + its has a few cool features like 2d lights and particles.

2dplugin kit.

it has 3 problems

1. when I install it

it wants to put it in
Crogram FilesThe Game CreatorsDarkBasicProfessional
instead of
Crogram FilesThe Game CreatorsDark Basic Professional

2 all the other extras ask for
E-mail and code
this install dose not

3. no uninstall

when I try and run it
it says it's not active
and 2 cases of the example
it says it dose not understand
the code in a spot and
will not stop compiling until it
runs every thing it can

I know my windows needs to be reinstalled but this
is anther story
