I want to create a top down shooter (space shooter), I was wondering how to have the background image scroll (slowly) as the level progresses, and perhaps have animations.

I suppose I could create a BMP file that is larger then the screen say
5120 x 769 (width x height) but a BMP file that size would be HUGE.

Anyhelp would be great.

Thanks

i suggest you to create a bmp 5120 x 769 ...like you said BUT .. INGAME... juste take some.. asteroid picture ....planets.. and other little picture..and then randomdly create your bmp ...
and you can incorporate 1 or 2 big bmp.. 200*200 or more... that will be incorporated only one time in your level....

i dont know if you understand....if you dont ..ask .. ill make a little example..

ok here an example for DBC V1.13 (it should work in DBPRO)

ok...in fact you will only need to replace text by picture...
and it should be ok....or do some modification....
but .. drawing 5-6 different little picture..everywhere... and 4-5 other who are only once..in the screen ..this should be ok...

move with:
LEFTKEY
RIGHTKEY

press on source button to...get the source..

I wouldnt make a bmp that size if you want all video cards to manage it.

What would work tho is 256x256 tiles of varying seamless background peices sliding down the screen.
