Hi,

I have £1200 to spend on a new computer and I have decided I want a laptop. I am looking at the desktop replacement variety (I don't need a great deal of portability...it's mainly coz I live in a tiny flat).

I was going to get an Apple Powerbook but, honest to God, the only reason stopping me was that DarkBASIC is my main pastime and not to be able to use it would be a nightmare!

I quite like the look of the 2.6Ghz Quaddra XT system from Rock Computers (http://www.rockdirect.com/notebooks/quaddraxt2.htm). It has the ATI mobility 9000 chipset with 64Mb of VRAM. Will this suffice for writing DarkBASIC software? I know that laptops don't make great gaming platforms but I don't usually play on graphics intensive games very often.

Does anyone have any better suggestions for a desktop replacement laptop in the UK, that will handle DarkBASIC well for less than £1200?

Many thanks,

P.S.
My current rig is:
Athlon XP 1700+
512Mb RAM
40Gb HDD
GeForce4 Ti4200 64Mb
17" Monitor
XP Pro

Laptops suck, why would you pay twice as much for a computer that can't be upgraded? Unless you travel away from your home and/or place of work alot and absolutly need to get work done, I see no reason to get one.
