hello everyone

Im Afrokid and im new to these forums.

i have been using FPSC for a while and just started getting into making models for it.

i thought for my first pack i'd make a Medieval themed pack (there is a good amount of medieval stuff on the store but not many styles of buildings)

i have attached a WIP building and was wondering if i can have some C&C on what you can see..and was also wondering how much i can sell it for.

~Afrokid

Edit, seems .bmp doesnt work here :S attached a .jpg
and how long will i have "noob" status for?

thankyou

i thought i would post what im up to before i go to bed.

can i please have some C&C on how to make it better?
also its only half the length, it will be mirrored (roof and side, not the door part)

P.S bummer about the noob thing, it gets annoying/boring waiting for the post to get put up (accepted)

The model is really good (I still couldn't do it) but it should be noted that the textures come from this site:http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/packs/building_cottage/index.htm

The textures come allready in 512x512 sections and can be put together with magic FPS in a couple of minutes, the only drawback is, that MFPS recognizes every black dot as alpha channel so the segments look like ther'e full of holes. Some buildings (like the cathedral) also show too small sized doors/windows if the textures are used straight away.

The textures ARE free for both commercial and non-commercial use so its nothing wrong in using them for your model. Personally, when I found them ,I thought they looked a bit too cartoonish

Most modellers here use this site for the textures, its highly recommencable:http://www.cgtextures.com/

Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Storyteller 01! Those are really helpful links. The second one actually will probably help me out with a dilemma I was having over one of my weirder animal model ideas . . . maybe. I'll post the results whenever I get to it, which may be far into the future.

@The Storyteller 01,
yes i used those textures, i also own a coppy of genetica. the window texture was not taken from that site as i made it myself and minorly changed the others to make them look better.

on topic.

i have been a bit busy with my schooling and work so i havnt been able to do any more on this modle pack but i hope to get back into it realy soon

P.S thanks for all the nice comments, it helps me know im not doing it for nothing

Thanks tanya,

im glad you like my models

As for what you said earlier about entering the houses, i realised that i cannot animate or script so making opening door's will probably be out of the options..so i got thinking and i came up with this idea..

My newest model...

*Drum Roll*

The Seige Weapon Battering Ram (no texture yet)

its 810 poly so you cant load your level up with them..but what army used HEAPS of battering rams anyways.
C@C Please

i was thinking that a pack with only entities would be boring so i made a few quick Brick Floors for towns roads or anything.

There is 5 Colours, Red, Yellow, Brown, Dark White and White.

C&C Please

By the way, what modeling software are you using?

Are you going to upload these to the store later? Looks like the foundation of a nice sellable pack. I'd like to see the battering ram textured. Hows that coming?

One idea is to make matching textured segments to creat a wall surrounding your castle. There are several Mods here on the boards that will let you punch a jagged hole in a segment. Just an idea to put with the battering ram.

i would upload them to the store but im not old enough to sign the paper work and if i get my parents to sign i cant afford sending a parcel sized envolope to the UK

I havnt had a chance to do any work on this pack.

the segments is a great idea, i might do that at a later stage

can i have some oppinions on what i should do?

and any models i should make (any era will work )

ok, i tried to make other models but they got boring

i guess im stuck with making medieval models

i am making the segments now and am having problems, 1 is making the textures "fit" and the other is making doors, i cant work out how to make custom doors

Oh and do you guys mind if the segments dont have wood sticking out of them (that adds a few poly's and takes a while to line up perfectly)

Its not up to anybody to *mind* how others do their stuff.

But there are over 200 *naked* segments available for free download. The "wood sticking out" is what would make a segment "stick out from the crowd" too. Especially if its to be sold in the store.

yea i know that but i also would like critisism on what the "potential buyers" want too..if i make something you dont like, you wont want it..but if i make it the way you want you will want it..well thats how i see it anyway.

i guess an extra 50-60 poly wont hurt if it makes it look better
