Hi, I have been playing around with DBPro code for a few months and would now like to make my space flight 3D game a little more easy on the eye. I am fooling around with shaders but don't really know what I am doing!!
What would be the simplest way to get the type of shading found in the X3 games, such as in the picture attached. The ships in this game reflect bright light of metal looking surfaces and are quite dark in shadow. I have not come even close to recreating this effect.
Any pointers for the right direction to go in?

I have just done some digging around on the X3 website and they mention - "2.0 pixel shader technology is used to create realistic reflections across a variety of surface types" So I guess the question is does DBPro have a pixel shader that will do this, or it it something that comes with Dark Shader? I don't have the expertise to work all this out so I was hoping for a plug and play solution!

Not many things in programming are plug and play.

You have to put hard work into it

OK its taken a little time (and money) but I nearly have the effect I was looking for. Basically I bought the Dark Game Studio DVD which gave me Darkshader, using this I found that the pixel shader does what I want when I get the settings right.

One question - in Darkshader there is a pre-set lighting effect for nighttime (moonlight) this looks great - Does anyone know what light settings are used to create this effect?
