Everyone that build games has his own company
even if it is small. But lets say you want to let
your company grow for that you need to buy some
good software and when I looked on the prices
I fell from my chair. Look at this small list:
Photoshop - 600$
3D Studio Max - 1000 Euro
Cinema 4D - 600 Euro
That is too much money!
I mean how can someone can expect from little companies
to become biger with these prices.
Im starting to think that to build a software
and sell it is better than creating games

What is your opinion about this?

yes i think because there are many types of apps that have not been invented and the number increases as more pc hardware is invented...but with games, there are not so many choices and there is stiff competition...remember thats just my opinion

It's called having capital. All companies big or small had/have some sort of investment to get off the ground. Come up with some sick wicked idea for a game and you'll either be given wads of $$ to develop it - OR - you'll be swallowed up by the company that's interested to be an employee (to devel from there)

all down to the idea

$2200 is nothing, we get that much at least for our Chirstmas bonus (and I work in retail). Your forgetting about the money it takes to rent out offices, register the company, tax, in all it'll cost well over $10,000. However in the US you can get small bussiness loans and grants, which helps a little. It take money to make money.

$2200 is nothing for a company that have sponsers and support
but for me (for example) its alot of money. I dont want to make
a big company for now just for myself and maybe with a friend or 2.
I looked at the prices and here is the list:
DBC + DM - $60
Milkshape - $25
CharacterFX - $15
Print Shop Pro - $100
As you can see its not cheap eighter
but it is muck better than before.

I also got internal conflict about something
I can download some of the software and use it illegal
but if Ill do that how can I expect people to buy my stuff?!
so I need to do this in the legal way.

If you download any cracks/ warez.. and use it.. you may not make money off of the game.. and if it is found yu tried to use it.. not paying for the software.. then you will go under many lawsuits.. no matter where you are.

Working on 4 projects 2 RPG(programming texturing and 3d map), 1 3rd person shooter (Programming), and a special project.

Although that said, you could get warez as long as when you release the software you buy the real version.

A trick would be buying older versions of these softwares ... they don't cost that much.

Better than nothing, besides upagrades cost less than buying the software new. In other words buy the old stuff then upgrade it, you'll probably still be paying less than buying the new version.

You have a point but its hard to find a site that support them
in the Jasc site there is no mention on PSP 7 only 8 for exampla.

Oh hell yeah, I've bought Super Famicom game directly from Japan, the most trouble yould have is shipping charges and sending an appropriate form of payment.

That's why you don't find many companies run by a couple of twenty-somethings with no backing

If you get a good game and can sell the idea to a publish, wait for the cash to roll (if it rolls in). Then when you have enough cash maybe buy some mroe software. Start small.

I was one of the lucky few who got visual studio 6 pro (rrp £600+) for £50 through the ms student's license scheme - now you can only get office xp off it.

Theres no place like 127.0.0.1

a years financial needs for a small games development company of 4 employees inc/manager

$100 startup for Limited Liability Company
$1000x3 standard workstations
$2000 for a top end machine (should be given your your graphical artist)
$350 Visual C++ MultiLicense Edition ($100xProgrammers DBPro, read the License scheme only 1 per machine)
$3,200 3D Studio Max 5 (this is provided your artist uses this!)
$600 Photoshop 7 (again provided this is what your artist uses)

that is all for your one time expenditures, it is best to have 2artists and 2programmers and pay for music/sound by a seperate company (trust me ALOT cheaper than inhouse)

next come the monthly bills, based on 5day weeks 8hrs/day
$1,000 x 4 employees pay (people wont work for free)
$2,500 (rent for a place to work, that would get you a small 10x10ft office space in a nice larger complex ... which is better because otherwise you end up paying electricity as well ontop of an more expensive office space that you won't use)

...

tall it up and you pay $9,250 totally startup + $3,500 montly ($42,000/year)

which comes to the recommened startup of most business' of $50k/year
not to mention you won't earn any revenue either, so you either finish a single title in that year which'll be your make or break, else you find some serious backers ... perhaps some people who want to hold stock in your company, they purchase the stock for the revenue you require ... and each year you basically pay off the interest on this - kinda like a loan, only more complex

business's aren't cheap by far, it is best to just be a team until you finish your first title which sells

There is 1 thing that you forgot
and its the Engine of the games
you could make 1 if your own but it will
take more than a year so its better to buy
one but its cost lots of money
