I am looking for a free renderer that can render some of my objects. I can't seem to find anything that doesn't require learning a whole nother programming language. If you know of any nice program, please tell me...

Wasn't POVRay non-linear?

Anyways,Blender is without any doubts the most featured FREE software out there.

GUI warning, very confusing and may get you extremely frustrated if you don't follow an introductory tutorial.

http://www.blender.org/

There's also,Truespace 3.2 that's gone free and is my prefered as far as free renderers are concerned plus it's much easier to learn than Blender.

Get it from Download.cnet.com

If you just want a high quality rendered image for non-commercial uses, the best idea would be to get Softimage Xsi exp(free version) which is shipped with the powerful Mental Ray as well as an awesome,if not the best,built-in Hair creator

trueSpace 3.2 is free too ... got a pretty awesome renderer on that, and the material setup is pretty simplistic and indepth.

Perhaps more important, what kind of files are you trying to render? Some renderers are better suited to some files than others. I happen to like DoGA CGA L3 since I can use it for game models and stills with a minimum of effort.

If you're up to the total frustration, Wings is supposed to be able to plug-in render engines such as Renderman.

The few times I player with the notion, I ended up exporting it, though. Never seemed to work from the main interface. The RIBs had to be done seperately from console to get results.

Just trying to add another piece of material, since POV was already mentioned . . .

I admire your honesty. Hell, I like you; you can come over to my house and ---- my sister!

Wing's renderer sux litterally, yet but you can implement Yaffray to it.

Blender has a great one and use Shaders as well

Raven:Yeah how can I forget that DOH!,Ts 3.2 is a must, you'll find the material behavior awesome and the raytrace reasonably fast for a 1997 application, there's a hair creation plugin I tried which isn't all that bad as well if you're not looking for Maya or Xsi type renders.

theres no GI or photon tracing in truespace 3.2 Also no SSS. It really depends on if you want your renders to look nice, or crappy.

POV-Ray kinds sucks too. Just buy some software.. do you have a job?

also if you've got max Brazil RS public trial is the way to go. If there are any FinalRender trials try them.

Froggermon:Well duh, name me a 1997 software that does have sub surface Light scattering or Translucency, which BTW I haven't really seen in use in your portfolio.

Also,if you've got Max,Brazil shouldn't be that much expensive for you.
