This project has been in private development by me, and for a long while I have been trying and re-trying to make levels, and this first level is in its very early stages. It's not a lot to explore, while the final version should have explorations, secret areas, bonus items, and alternate routes.
This whole game takes place shortly after the second world war ended. The architecture is strange at times, because it takes place in a fictional city in Germany.
The first Chapter of the story is here:
I sat down at my desk. Rain covered the outside of the house. Darkness covered the inside, and seemed to hide everything that was concealed in its range of darkness, and everything which was not covered in light.
Unfortunately, it covered everything except my mind.
Everything that I had been told to do floated through my head, and what I was to do haunted me, in the next few hours.
After the destruction of the Nazi regime, poverty was rife in Germany. Death, a daily occurrence, starvation, a fact of life. After the gap that the Nazi regime had filled in people’s life was utterly destroyed, people searched for a new leadership. A new heading on their life. Many turned to the occult, worshipping evil spirits, any way to find hope for their life.
After many years, a cult formed, called the Serra des anderen Reichs, Seers of the Other Realms. They claimed to have contacted powerful ancient poltergeists, with the intent of using their powers to repair the broken Fatherland. The cult gained a huge following, so much so that it was considered necessary for the KGB to examine the possible threat of these Seers, and whether the spirits they worship are a tangible threat.
A Russian officer already attempted to do this. Tracking down the cult’s base, he attempted to investigate what was going on in there. Three days later, with no contact or report from him, his corpse was found at the city gates. His face was a total wreck, shredded by what was made impossibly by a man. His body flesh was ripped out and shredded to pieces. An old yellow note was clipped to his shirt.
It read:
My dear friends,
The devil’s eyes are always watching over us all, and there is no escaping his powerful grasp. Those who are faithful to him will live a wealthy live, and those who are faithful to the lord instead, will suffer greatly under his wrath.
My son, Henry Cronon Alberts, has already suffered what he had deserved, when he tried to stop me from unleashing the others. He trusted in the lord, and so he has been not only killed, but his soul is lost forever in hell.
Those who dare go against me can kill me, but never my soul. It is too powerful for you all. You can kill the guards, destroy all of what is happening, but never can you kill the devil himself.
As to my grandson, John Cronon Alberts, who was to be the one to carry out what I cannot finish, will not live for long, as he has already gained his trust in the Lord himself. Sacrifices have been made, worships have been done, and it is too late to turn back. John, if you are reading this, start running. But there is no use. I have sent all of hell after you. It may take years, and I may not live to see the moment, but find you it will.
Count on it.
Joseph Cronon Alberts
My grandfather was what everyone called a demon. All his life he has been talking about what others considered as crazy. He believed in the devil and opposed the Lord, and all day long he had his nose buried in books, chanting in a language I did not understand. I was still a young child when I lived with him, but eventually I got used to him spending all day in the attic. No one dared to disturb him however.
It was obvious that the note was written a long time ago by my grandfather. My grandfather had died nearly twenty years ago while I was still a teenager. Still, this mysterious note got me packing right away, and flying to Germany, where it supposedly took place.
Life wasn’t easy as a private detective, and there was proof right at that moment when I was greeted by civilians and city guards, telling me all the details, and allowing me at the scene of the crime.
I was sent on a mission to do what nobody dared, and to do what the Russian officer had failed at. It involved my grandfather, and so do it I must, whether it’s for Germany, or whether it’s for my own good.
Finding the cult’s base had been difficult. It seemed like the only way into the base was through an underground tunnel, nearly three hundred meters beneath the building. I stayed at a local house for rent for a few weeks, collecting as much data as I could.
But that few weeks was over. The few hours remaining, before I set off to my journey, started its own countdown, until when I was to set out, to when my life was likely to strike an end, just as my grandfather predicted, or better put, arranged.
