Is it possible to make a script to where once you enter a sound zone, music starts looping, and keeps looping even when you exit the zone, but stops once you enter or leave another sound zone, and the normal background music starts again? Lol i know this is very complicated, but i really need it for my game. If this can be done, then can somebody please post a script (or two if needed) for it? If somebody did, i would be very grateful to them.

At night i lay awake on my bed, gazing up at the stars, and i wonde-hey, where'd the roof go?

This belongs in the script board.

Very grateful or not, this is about learning to write scripts. Why would you vouch not to learn and depend upon others to do it for you, wasting not only your time but their time as well?

If you can show viable effort to attempting this yourself, I would be very glad to assist in the creation, but I've long since stopped creating scripts for people. (Unless I happen to have one that fits the bill)

I realized that it belonged in the script board when it was too late and there was nothing i could do about it. What if i don't want to take the time to learn to script? I'm sure if i did that would waste even more time than it would for somebody else who ALREADY KNOWS how to script to make one. Why would you post in this thread only to criticize me and not even try to help? You don't make much sense to me.

I suggest you read the sticky threads from now on.

This one for example:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=126004&b=23

I am not criticizing you. I am providing constructive criticism, and any game developer knows the difference. I am telling you to learn because it will help you.

I am also offering to help MORE if you can show that you are attempting to learn and have made some sort of effort to make the script yourself.

I've done the math time and again. You will save more time doing it yourself than waiting for others to do it for you. And if you don't want to learn, then I'm afraid you won't be benefiting from my assistance as so many others have. Your loss.

First of all, you are criticising me, not being constructive, that's for sure. Second, clearly its going to take longer for me to LEARN how to script than it would for an expert to just do it. I would like to learn how to, but don't even know where theres a tutorial or anything.

Hah, are you kidding me? There are a ton of other people that would help me, it isnt like you're the only one who knows how to do what i'm asking.

Model packs, Ply is the best and has helped me quite a few times. He points you in the right direction and waits to see if you arrive. Some people can script, some can model, some can write stories, some can texture and some can do it all. I have helped you in your other post and even gave you an example without scripting and you turned it down. If I remember right I even wrote your scripts for you. Ok, enough said I leave with one last thing to say , please try to script it will help you in the long run.

I am trying to learn how to script, and i never turned anything you gave me down, i have been very appreciative to you. I don't care if you don't help me anymore, do what you want, because i was never rude to you or ply. If i have offended you in any way, please let me know, as i'm sure it will probably be ridiculous.

Since I doubt you have the initiative to do it yourself, I've taken the liberty of quoting dictionary.com for your convenience.

con⋅struc⋅tive

con⋅struc⋅tive  /kənˈstrʌktɪv/ [kuhn-struhk-tiv]
–adjective 1. constructing or tending to construct; helping to improve; promoting further development or advancement

crit⋅i⋅cism

crit⋅i⋅cism  /ˈkrɪtəˌsɪzəm/ [krit-uh-siz-uhm]
–noun 1. the act of passing judgment as to the merits of anything.

If you feel the thought of learning to script is in no way, shape, or form going to promote further development or advancement, then I really feel sorry for you.

Are you serious?? The best offered you help and you say this. lol

Did you use the scripts I wrote for you? Did you try what I said for a no script effect? Sorry Ply, I know this is a lost cause, but I just have to know.

Wow, you actually took the time to copy content from the dictionary and post it here - what a useful person you are... Do me a favor and make yourself worth something for once by just being quiet. Also, don't feel sorry for me, i know you're just saying that to make me feel better.

Immature? Really? I'm so hurt! Well at least i can fit into something... Btw, i thought you left

He offered to help me, then got impatient and resorted to being a jerk.

Yes, i did, and i replied nicely to you.

Really? Because you saying "Not no more!" kinda makes you sound like a hurt school girl... Sad? Why? Because i'm being a meanie to both you and, "the best?" I think its sad that you don't even know what appreciation is, and haven't even noticed how big of a jerk ply has been. Guys, i don't want to argue with you. All i wanted was a script, because at the time, i don't know how to make one. So you give me, not a script, but all this... Nice... Please don't reply with something clever, because i really don't feel like going on with this. Since nobody is going to help me, i guess i'll just give up my hopes for it.

Here is ply's page for learning to script. Now this is for ai, but it has helped me and it will help you. Just take your time.

Sorry, bud to many beers in this old man to feel that way. Problem is, we have helped, I have used your scripts and they do work the way you want them to. Also you cannot request a script here it's in the stickies and enforced by the mods. Even I have step over the lines on this and was kindly lead to the sticky. So I will do the same for you.
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=126004&b=23

There are others out there that would help you, like me, when I saw that ply was helping and you seemed unable to script, I remembered that I had asked the same question and was provided not a script, but a way to use excisting scripts to get the same effect. When I said "not no more!" what I meant to say is the best came to you and you thought he was being mean. I have written Ply several times and he has always been decent to me. Not trying to be mean or rude, just trying to be honest. I am no ply, but I can't help you like he can. I do alot of copy and pasting for my scripts. I think I have actually written one script that I was proud of and later S4real released it for free after I had struggled to do it on my own. That was on the animated menu. But what I do take pride in is the fact as to how similar our two scripts were. Comical, but I learned the hard way. I hope the game download helps you. Play it, look at the scripts. If you need my help I will help, but I will not write a script for you. Here is a program that I use to check my work when writing scripts and also look in your docs file you should see an offical guide for fpsc made by many on the forums. It helps alot.

Thank you starmind 001, i really appreciate it. Ply hasnt been very patient with me, and maybe he isnt a jerk, but its hard for me to understand things as i have a learning disability. I realized after i posted that i probably shouldn't have posted a request for a script in the script board, but there was nothing i could do about it. Also, thanks for the links. I probably messed something up in the scripts making them unable to play the music, but i couldn't find anything wrong with them. I will look into the FPI edit pad and check the scripts again.

EDIT: I'm sorry if i was rude to you, i got a little worked up.

Would you be surprised if I told you that I do too? How do I deal with it? Persistance. I read slow (I can't help it), and it takes me quite a few times of re-reading to really get it. But after a while, you will start to understand.

Like starmind has pointed out earlier, not all of us are programmers, not all of us are modelers, not all of us are sound/music composers, etc. but I am not one to go ask for someone to do something for me, especially for free, if I have the time/ability to learn to do it on my own. I have spent time learning to model, and with some assistance from Kravenwolf I've been learning to UV Map. Sure, it would have taken him all of 15 minutes to do it himself, but if there's only ONE person doing it, how much can get done in an amount of time? Only so much. Now how much could get done if one of those people taught the other person how to do it and they both worked on it afterwards? Quite a bit more.

For the record, I would rather someone teach me how to fish so that I could get my own, as opposed to simply giving me a fish in the beginning.

Persistance isnt the same with all of us, i just don't get things. It has to be explained a special way before i understand.

Quote: "I am not one to go ask for someone to do something for me, especially for free"

I was hoping nobody would charge me for it, as its only a script. It isnt like they're making an entity for me.

I have tried to script, but i don't know where to start or how i would even learn, most of it doesn't make any sense to me.

There are tutorials out there to help teach you. Nothing makes sense to you if you don't take the time to look into what it's doing.

You can find plenty of tutorials and help on the subject in the "ofpscguide.pdf" file that you can find in your "FPS Creator/Docs" folder.
