Hi to all!

I'm posting just to show a little app I'm working on, that I called, Visual FPI. I'm developing this app to make the FPI scripting even easier.

So Guys, I need your help, I'm just putting on a Box some of the projects I'm working, to Revive some other. And Visual FPI is on the candidate list for boxing. What i need from you is to tell me if this project is wordy to not be boxed.

Here's a description of the Prototype:
Whit Visual FPI, You only need to Drag and Connect Dots to script.

Quick Scripting: The Amount of Text Entering is minimized, as you only enter the values of the Conditions of Actions you are using. The Software writes the rest for you.

You commits lets errors as You are visualizing the Actions and Conditions Visually.

If you want this piece of Software not to be boxed and leaved in to be forgotten in the Darkest areas of my Hard Drive. Just Tell me. And If you have Ideas Tell Me Too.

Design Window

Code View

Thanks Again to all in Advance.

This seems like a really nice way to both make scripting easier and to help other newbies learn the scripting, I say release it!

This sounds like a great idea! I definitely would be using this if you released it.

This looks nice
Can you move the visual code boxes around?

And what happens when one line points to another line using the 'state' command? Is a line drawn from the end of one to the beginning of the other?

Yep, The Visual Code Boxes can be moved freely around the editing area.

The Lines are dragged from one point to the other. You can Remove one line just dragging away from one point already connected or just you can reapply it to another point in another Box. In that way you control the Flow of the Script.

This looks very cool! I just wonder how much more effective it is than a similar helper that it not graphical, just allowing the user to select conditions and actions from a list and input the values. Certainly the "visual aspect" will add to the learning experience, but how much and at what cost? Does this give the user an explanation of the conditions and actions so he can determine what he needs to accomplish his task?

The example you show is simple and straight forward, but what happens when scripts branch out, link to others, and become more complex and lengthy? Will the user be able to move the graphics around, say by line number, to keep things in order? Will it be able to visually do all of the things we can do in notepad...
Make changes on the fly, copy and paste lines or parts of lines, etc, group the states and move them at will, etc? If I used it, I would find myself in the text view most often just to more clearly see what I did.

In the end it's up to you whether to proceed or not. I don't know your plans to deal with longer, more complex scripts and how much work it would take.

Brian.

Thanks for your comments xplosys. Just the thinks I want to hear!

If the feedback to this is the Right one, I'm going to Continue the Project using Windows Presentation Foundation that let me achieve some of the thinks you mention specifically the grouping area, that one Ruining in my head for some time now. Using WPF i can bring the project to the web using Silverlight.

That brings me to my second point, Visual FPI Its going to be Free. Whit an approach of If you like it you can donate to the cause or just send me a Thanks email. I just want make a good aportation to the to the community. But for that I need to know if it worth the time.

For the prototype I use an open source library named toothrot.

Interesting concept! The currently exported code isn't valid, tough, every line has to start with a colon, but doesn't end with one.

Better check if the script-parser handles spaces between colons and commas, 'cause I can't remember, that it handles them, I may be wrong, tough.

I'm eager to see, how this evolves...
