~*FREE FPSC Billboard Pack*~

Welcome to the thread of my latest pack - the Free FPSC Billboard Pack. A Billboard is flat plane with a texture applied to it - from a distance this gives the impression of a 3D object while only using 2 polygons. This means it is a great opportunity to use them in outdoor environments while retaining a high quality. You can literally place as many of these billboards as you want with no impact on performance - in fact, one 3D tree is the equivalent of 800-1500 billboards!

This pack contains 9 Billboard Trees, each in Small, Medium, and Large sizes. Also included are two types of shrub to place on grassy areas, each in Extra Small, Small, and Medium sizes. A fallen leaf overlay also comes with the pack, in standard and large sizes. Also included are the following BONUS items: Script to remove collision, 6 Tree decals which rotate to face the player, and an .fpm which shows off every item available in this pack.

All trees can be made collision-less by changing them from static to dynamic. All shrub items are dynamic by default.

LICENSE:

These billboards are free to use in commercial and non-commercial projects (so long as I am given credit).

Limitations:

Obviously there are limitations to using billboards. I have listed them below:

-Are invisible from behind due to the tree being a single plane
-Cannot be seen from above
-Bonus Tree Decal Limitations - Low quality + stuttering image - limit to the amount that can be placed

The entire package is compressed into one easy installer which will automatically install the files into your FPSC Directory.

Enjoy!

For you lazy people (), this pack contains:

-A total of 27 Tree Billboards
-Two leaf overlays
-6 Types of Billboard Shrub
-Collision-Removing Script
-.FPM example
-5 Tree Decals

Thanks for this man, always appreciated
Definitely a way to help keep that FPS rate down a bit too

Cheers

Life would be much easier if I had the source code.

Sorry about the pixelation. That's FPSC not reading the transparency 100% correctly. I'll see what I can do to fix it though.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys

And just to show you how effective billboards can be, here is a picture showing over 300 billboards with minimal performance loss:

Looks good, but clean your textures better, so that no black pixels appear. I've used this technique with X10 a while ago, and It looks very nice, when used correctly.

Good work!

I'm not really sure how. The textures themselves are 100% clean and are stored in transparent png files. I used Signs V to build them, which adds in a black background, so I'm not really sure where things are going wrong :S If i find out how to fix these, I'll reupload them.

Use GIMP after the creation of the billboards and fill the background with a horrible colour like bright pink or so and then you can clearly see the black dots, which is easier for you to clean them!

Superb for people who want detailed outdoor scenes but have slow computers that don't like fully modeled trees in the distance.

These make a great alternative for background trees (put 'em behind the real modeled trees, such as those from Tree Magic, and it's perfection).

Yeah, sorry It really isn't noticeable from a distance, which is what the billboards were intended for.

I'm thinking of creating a free outdoor pack for the community to help inspire some more outdoor themed games. I'm still deciding on it though

@General Jackson

Are you sure this wasn't a false alarm? I just ran an online virus scan and it came out 100% clean (feel free to do the same if you wish). There is no virus in this. The only thing I can think of is that your AV picks up the installer as a virus...but if this type of thing will happen, I'll probably steer clear of installers for now, I just though it would help the newbies and people who have trouble installing...

Looks very nice! They will be very useable in my game, and they wont torture framerate if I put many of them showing in one screen. Very nice.
