Released today: http://www.fpscreator.com/pack38.html

Youtube video, make sure to load the high-def version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpBdkCaBaz8

New things in the video since the teaser trailer are the Concession stand with chasing lights, restrooms with working mirrors, and theater with working projector. Of course the cool water and environment effects as you've already seen.

First thing you'll want to do, to make the learning curve as gentle as possible, is load up the inluced map file, "The Metro Theater Showcase.fpm". Then just walk around, and notice all the little details on everything. The environment truly feels alive.

I'll leave this thread for any questions you may have about the shaders. Best thing to do is when you find an effect you like, check the shader it's using and take a look at the textures, including the alpha channels to find out what is going on. Then load everything up in Dark Shader. If there is anything I can help with, ask here.

Crazy! I was almost expecting to see a reflection of myself in the mirror.

This is a must have. Checking PayPal balance...... Nope. A little shy. Have to use the credit card. Thanks for including the FPM. Great idea.

Didn't you just get a 9800GT? That is a pixel shader 4.0 card and will run this pack like a champ. Anyhow, sorry this pack won't be everyone's cup of tea.

A new day in FPS Creator dawns...

bond1 you have surely and purely outdone yourself with this pack, more an achievement than anything! And my gosh, I'm just watching the updated video...oh the endless possibilities, with these shaders and technology, mixed with the open ended spectrum of FPSC, I believe in time we are now going to see projects that truly parallel commercial PC games even in this age, and strengthen, champion the indie-game development world. The bathroom in that video is amazing looking. The whole video, beautiful.

As soon as I have the money to purchase this, there won't be a second of hesitation.

And I look forward, with great excitement and curiousity, to whatever brilliant endeavor you pull out of your hat next time

Cheers

Life would be much easier if I had the source code.

How does this pack work in X10, and are there any special considerations for that?

This is an X9 ONLY pack, I will make sure TGC puts this on the site. X10's rendering pipeline is closed, unlike X9, which means there is no way for me to get custom shaders into X10 on a per-model basis.

i say this

well, not every one in the world has this great of a card, im building my game with dark basic pro and was going to try to incorperate this into that. in your last thread you said that thease where direct x 9 shaders, at least i belive this is what i read. so why do we need a higher quality card to render this. if most all the people that run my game can run it with this pack ill buy it but if not, then no, i wont, sad sad day for me.

You're getting a little confused here Daniel. These are directx9 shaders running on pixel shader 2.0. A pixel shader 2 card is all that is needed. Hell I ran this pack on an ATI 9800 card from 2004 just fine!

A 9800GT will work too, and in fact is OVERKILL for running this pack.

I've tested it.

Mini Review:

Everything looks very nice, altough I can only run it at 20-25 fps using Project Blue.

I have a 6600 quad core, a 9600 GT and 4 gb of ram.

I'm going to test custom segments and will show my results soon!

So is it that the pack won't work at all in X10, or that you just won't get the shader effects?

no custom shader works in x10. plus x10 shaders does all of this. im going to put up a post on how x10 shaders work.

The models themselves will work fine. But without the shader effects. No animated water, no blinking lights, no reflective mirrors, no movie screen. You might need to rename some of the textures too, as some of them are tailored directly for a particular effect.

OK, thanks. I've been more partial to X10 lately, but I'm still gonna' get it for the models and to see how you did it.

@ Tanya

I believe what bond1 was referring to was Xplosys' question regarding this pack in X10. FPSC X10 doesn't support custom shaders, and what bond1 meant was without the shaders being able to work, there'd be no animated water, blinking lights, reflective mirrors, or movie screen. At least that's how I took it! Correct me if I'm wrong bond.

Cheers

That is correct. In X9, you get everything you see. In X10, the effects will not be available.

Yes, and I have tested that particular card. 38fps in an Athlon 64 based computer. Again, this pack is for X9, simply turn on full shader effects, load the map file, and you get everything exactly as seen in the video.

As I also have an 8800GT I'm just curious, were you getting a 38fps with a mod like Project Blue, or the standard FPSC? As long as things go swimmingly, I should be purchasing this before the day is out

Definitely getting this pack! It's on the list for when my new check gets here! Though I do have some questions...

@bond1:

I remember you saying something about using both ShaderMap and MapZone to set up your maps, correct? If so, that's not a problem

Secondly, I've always had problems setting up shaders with segments. I've asked around and got really different answers with no solid conclusion. One of the reasons, I guess, was because I intend on mapping pretty old media... Model Pack 3, I believe (I got them from the TGC Store, so I'm not quite sure). I think that I could get the "blue" stuff looking pretty nice with some maps and your shaders

I could end up using CoZ's pack tutorial on some other entities, but like I said, it's mainly about the old segments.

Oh yeah... before I forget (though you probably already know this as to how I've been prowling your old thread and YouTube page)... I think this is the best thing to come out of FPSC since the addition of hands on guns! Like I said before, this pack finally brings FPSC into current gen! Keep up the good work!!!

(I may have more questions, but I just hopped on here as soon as I woke up, so most of them escape me right now )

After testing with the shaders used in the static objects, I may say the final results are great! Static and with shaders, a dream come true lol

And would recommend the pack, for sure.

Hey, would you mind posting pics? I think it'd be a good idea to post pics of success... Like showing off how good it looks outside of the pack, in an actual implementation... Could I get more user pics? CAN I GET MORE SUCCESS STORIES?!? CAN I GET A "WOOT WOOT"!?! (Umm... never mind... lol... but seriously, I think that user success pics are a good idea, who else thinks so?)

You should add the walkthrough video on the map pack page, you cant see your effects at maximum if you view it at a screnshot you realy need to be in the momment.

Good work!

Well, as requested, I'm posting here my tests, concerning only static entities and their shaders.
The truth is, with bond1's shaders, you can get the best of two worlds: the very nice lightmap shadows you'll get when proper using FPSC and still have very nice shader effects on segments and static objects. Before, you'd get only one: or detailed shadows or bumps with no shadows = dynamic object.

I'm using for these tests two models from Kravenwolf, that I like a lot: the wooden shed and the locker.

And of course, I've added a bit of my own work, because I've added to the model textures a fake bump, giving it a "harder" look.

I'm posting more pics in the future, for you guys to see what results I'm getting!

Ah! Thank you Alimpo, greatly appreciated. Those look great I'm even more excited now. As if that was possible! So with just a few simple shaders applied to some static objects in a map like that, running Project Blue, what kind of fps are you getting? And are you simultaneously running PB's v1.7 full screen shaders?

Life would be much easier if I had the source code.

WOW!
Truly Amazing Bond.
I'll get this as soon as I can. (need to transfer some funds to PayPal)
I thought I had missed something when I saw this was Pack 38, because I didn't remember a Pack 37 being released.
I see now that these two came out together.
I wonder what the castle will look like with your shader.
Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Thanks in advance.

Just woke up, jumped on the computer with my credit card in hand, and placed my order

@bond1, unfortunately, I was never able to upgrade my graphics card. Appartently my power supply would have needed to have been upgraded as well When my order is approved, I'm going to test the shaders and see how well performance is on my computer. I think it's time to start thinking about moving onto a more updated computer anyway.

Anyway, is there a tutorial available yet for applying these shaders on custom entities? I would assume I can just apply the shader in the entities' effect field, but what if I want to use my own normal/spec maps?

Placed my order Bond1. Just waiting for download approval in my order history.

This is the most excited I've been about FPSC for a long time. You've advanced the software by several generations with this pack and I believe this will be a significant turning point for FPSC. Being able to use these shaders on segments and static entities with full lightmapping is just sick.

I was just wondering is there a Dark Shader tutorial in the pack for the new shaders like there was in model pack 22 as I found that really useful?

Also you mentioned there is going to be a shader using the same guts as in this pack for characters which will finally allow everything in FPSC to be rendered with consistently good shaders. Will this be released as an extra in my order history for model pack 22 or something?

Thanks again. Its a significant day for FPSC.

Will be purchasing this.
The price is way low actually when you consider the work put into it. You get the models and the shaders which in my opinion are worth the price of the pack alone as they take FPSC to a level all on its own, TGC must be kinda thrilled and worried at the same time as x10 now cant compete with it. This actually shows the limitations of x10, maybe a total rethink of FPSC is now in order. Its almost like having a team working on a project when someone releases stuff like this and it improves the learning/creative experience for all of us.
One thing tho', it looks like the grouting on the tiles in the gents washroom is bumped the wrong way, the tiles look sunk into it, probably intentional as you usually dont miss anything, a very small detail but couldn't help noticing.
