This may help us when making 3D games. I have to use 3 programs to get a good animated 3D X file.

Interesting but not a sausage about this on the Caligari web site. I wonder when they'll annonce it. $300 also seems too expensive for a 3D package aimed at the hobbyist imho.

Cheers,

Rich

They just announced it today, I think I am the frist website to post it. I am sure they will have something on their website soon. The product is supposed to ship this month. At $299.00 it's priced higher than most cheep programs and far less than all of the high end software.

for all those who don't feel like trapsing through several pages of news just to find out what DrReaper is on about.
can't say i'm actually excited about this release though...
they'd been promising us a game version for almost 5years now, and this really isn't what many of the trueSpace users had in mind.

Let alone the price - Ouch!

I bought a programming language for just a tad less than that and it's aimed at hobbyists

I wonder....

I doubt there's a market for a program like this, if it is aimed at the hobbyist, considering that you have a dearth of free programs out there that are pretty good. Granted, there are some hassles with them, mainly that they tend to focus on a single task: either object modelling, or scene modelling, or character animation, or UV manipulation...

But there's many good tools out there.

Besides, this quote really made me really suspicious: "Anyone with talent can create beautiful content quickly", said Roman Ormandi, President of Caligari. On the other hand the article also says "Import/export utilities are provided for most popular game engines providing developers with the freedom to develop and reuse content for multiple titles, with absolutely no restrictions." I that means programmatic restrictions or license restrictions, I don't know, though as I said I'm suspicious.

Perhaps I'm just a pessimist by nature, but I've seen too many packages promise the world entire and then some.

Ahh, I assume it has the same style UI as Truespace then? - Never been a big fan of that UI, in fact I just don't think 3D is great for viewpoint modelling - I'm never sure where my vertices are going when I edit in 3D (3D is great for selecting vertices though).

I must admit that it will probably have a really great renderer in it, even my old version of Truespace renders very nicely.

$300...

If I spent $300 on any software, never mind a modeller, my fiance would jam it down my throat sideways!.

- I'm never sure where my vertices are going when I edit in 3D (

It works with planes, when the camera is facing a direction, the modeling plane changes accordingly...It is like that in almost every software that can actually edit in 3d viewports.

ya, maybe you missed the little button that toggles between 3 move systems. Global, local, and viewport.

Unless I get more info about GameSpace I won't touch it. Right now, you can get it for $199 if you purchase it before a certain date, can't remember what it is, but I think you have less than a week to do it if you want to take a stab at it.

Regards
Ben

VanB:get a new girlfriend then , one of the main reasons I got rid of my ex-wife was the constant moaning about all the time I spent on the computer (2-3hrs a day ), now I have more time and more money, and she`s shacked up with another guy who can afford her .

Dang, I aint paying that much for any 3D modeler. I'd rather just buy Milkshape, or model in Wings3D and learn how to animate in JTEdit.

The info isn't terribly convincing but I decided to take a punt. I mean, $US199 isn't a hell of a lot of money and if it turns out to be good then I've made a good investment. If not then I'll just get a refund.
