hey everybody!
i have just started using blender 3d and have made some models that i would like to get textured.
so how can i do that?
do i need another program or can i do it with blender?

I use gimp with blender, but blender does have the ability to make most of its textures in the program. You will need to look around for the tutorials for them, but they are well worth it. I use gimp just to touch up the texture, but you can do lots of stuff with it without another program. If cheap and free is they way you wish to go get gimp and the two will work together great. Also if you have the latest blender you can do texture bakes to give a better look to your texture. Hope this helps.
